For scaffolders
Every approved loft, extension and re-roof needs scaffolding
Scaffolding goes up early and comes down late. The approval date gives you a head start on work you would be asked to quote for anyway.
Scaffolding sits downstream of nearly everything else on the register. A two storey extension needs it. A loft conversion with a dormer needs it. So does a re-roof, a chimney rebuild, repointing on a listed building, and a new build shell. Usually for weeks rather than days.
That makes the register a good forecast for your diary. The application tells you the address and the scale. The decision tells you it is going ahead. The gap between approval and first fix gives you time to be the firm the builder already has a price from.
Watching a whole patch matters more for scaffolding than for most trades. Your customer is often the contractor rather than the homeowner, and you want to know before they have chosen anyone.
Two storey work, roof work and anything on a listed building are the ones to flag. Application types explained covers the categories. How long decisions take covers the lead time. Planning conditions often set the hours and access you will be working to.
