For glaziers

Windows and doors are specified on the register before they are ordered

Windows in a conservation area, a new shopfront, a wall of bi-folds on a rear extension. The proposal spells it out before anyone measures up.

Glazing gets specified long before anyone measures up. Replacement windows on a listed building or in a conservation area need consent in their own right. The application names the frame material, the opening style and often the glazing bars. A rear extension with a wall of bi-folds says so in the description. A new shopfront is an application of its own.

That gives you two kinds of job from the same register. The first is direct: an application that exists because of windows or doors. The owner knows what they want and needs someone to supply and fit it.

The second comes later. Extensions, loft conversions and outbuilding conversions all end in glazing that has not been ordered yet.

Heritage work is worth watching. It is specified, slow, and rarely priced on the day. Those applications appear under the heritage category. The decision timeline shows how far ahead of the work an approval sits, and refused schemes usually come back revised, which the post-decision guide covers.
