1 x Fraxinus excelsior 1 x Fraxinus excelsior - at approximately 28-30m in height this mature, shelter belt perimeter tree displays fair to reasonable vitality. The tree features a birfurcation at 6m and the canopy displays some over development on the north-east. At the time of my visit, there was a significant bird-dropping issue throughout the back garden. The objective would be to reduce the over-extended lateral growth by 2-2.5m, ultimately, balancing the entire tree and reducing overhang. Pruning much harder may cause decay ingress. Works will require specialist rigging as there is an oil tank below. Remove dead, dying and diseased wood. Canopy thin by 5-10%, lightly reducing some canopy sail. I would suggest that whilst we climb, a survey is carried out with particular reference to inspecting the bifurcation and further inspecting the basal area too. Remarks:

P14/S4594/TPO Granted
War Memorial Place and YMCA Sports, Harpsden Road, HENLEY-ON-THAMES
T1, T2, T3, Lawson Cypress, 2 x Spruce; trees are on south eastern boundary, adjacent pine has failed and narrowly missed properties. Client is concerned with proximity of Lawson and 2 Spruces. To reduce large Spruce by 5-6m or where tree becomes a twin stem and adjacent Lawson and Spruce to approximately the same height. Reason: trees are too large for location, thus requiring tree maintenance.

Sycamore x 5 (G1) Sycamore (T1) Ash (T2) Sycamore (T3) Ash x 2, Acer x 1 (G2) Ash (T4) Ash x 3 (G3) Holm Oak (T5) G1 - Sycamore x 5 - Recommended Works: Dismantle in sections in order to fell to ground level the smallest of the 5 stems which is growing immediately adjacent to the boundary fence. See Photo 1. Reduce lateral growth of the stem immediately adjacent to the smallest stem to alleviate conflict with the ash tree in the neighbouring property. Inspect wound on largest stem, implementing a decay detection test (Resistograph) to ascertain extent of decay and report findings. Remove any deadwood >50mm dia. and broken, hanging branches. There is potential for some new planting in this area to increase age and species diversity and sustainability. Suggest 4 trees comprising beech x 2 and wild cherry x 2. Suggested size: heavy standard i.e. 12-14cm girth, 3.6-4.25m high. T1 - Sycamore - Recommended works: Dismantle in sections in order to mitigate any hazard. Retain sections of main stem to reflect the treatment applied to neighbouring sycamore (E). Final height should be at least 2m different to the sycamore (higher or lower) to provide a more natural appearance. Apply 'coronation cuts' to top of stem to imitate storm damage. There is also potential for some new planting in this area to increae age and species diversity and sustainability. Suggest 2 trees comprising field maple x 1 and English oak x 1. Suggested size: heavy standard i.e 12-14cm girth, 3.6-4.25m high. T2 - Ash - Recommended works: Remove major deadwood (>50mm dia) from canopy. T3 - Sycamore - Recommended works: Remove major deadwood (>50mm dia). Monitor annually. Ash x 2, Acer x 1 (G2) - Recommended works: Remove major deadwood >50mm dia. fron all three trees. Thin canopy of sycamore by 15%. Monitor wounds annually. T4 - Ash - Recommended works: Remove all deadwood from canopy. Reduce canopy by approximately 2.0m on the western aspect to reduce wind susceptibility and improve form. Ash x 3 (G3) - Recommended works: No works required, inspect bi-annually. Holm Oak (T5) - Remove hanger. Remarks:

Old wound/cavity at top of trunk at 2.5m with evidence of old decay potentially weakening limbs over garages. Reduce height of main stem over road by c3m and lateral branches in proportion. Reduce pair of stems over garages by approx 3m. Remove basal shoots. T1004 - Horse Chestnut - canopy suppressed by adjacent lime. Very old wounds on trunk, largest of which on E side could conceal more extensive decay. Lower wound (E side) needs further investigation with Resistograph.

T1 - Cypress Leylandii The tree is a Cypress Leylandii. It is in the rear garden very close to the fence running down the left hand side of the garden as you look back at the house. (There are two, the other being close to the back gate and small). It is the large one (No.1 on the sketch) that we wish to fell due to excessive shading which means we use less of the garden as nothing will grow under it, not even the grass. We also plan to reduce the height and width of tree No.2 on the sketch. Remarks:
