1 Bridge Cottages, High Street, Whitchurch on Thames, Oxon, RG8 7De

T1 - Fir Tree There is only one fir tree at the south end of our front garden by the side of the neighbours shed - proposal is to fell as low amenity value and excessive shading (means currently no use of our only garden and lack of ability to grow plants). Neighbours from No.2 also strongly in favour. No replanting in same spot as there is still a large holly tree in adjacent garden and plenty of high land mark trees in gardens around (See photo). Horse Chestnut by road and car park - This specimen shows an extensive area of decay in the area of test. Consider extensive remedial treatment or complete removal. Monitor on a regular basis if retained for future structural changes. Located beside road and car park, this Chestnut is showing poor vitality with evidence of Phytophthora (bleeding canker) visible on southern aspect with dead cambium and buttress. There is a large seam of decayed wood close to bifurcation as indicated by percussive hammer. Please see sonic tornograph test results enclosed. (M Gulliford aware of situation). Group of 3 x late mature Ash (two tested) Ash T4 - This specimen appears sound in the area of test. Monitor on a regular basis if retained for future structural changes. Ash T2 - This specimen appears sound in the area of test. Monitor on a regular basis if retained for future structural changes. Basal decay on T4 was currently deemed, non-structurally compromising. All three trees have undergone light retrenchment pruning which has resulted in successful regeneration throughout the canopy extemities, and also internally. Lightly thin canopy by 10% and reduce regrowth by 2m, particularly on laterals to the west over cricket nets (sport's area) to leave a balanced, flowing form. No pruning exceeding 60mm in diameter. Some habitat holes are present and upon inspection deemed acceptable to retain with above recommended works being carried out.

T1 - Horse Chestnut - reduce crown by 2m, to maintain tree at a reasonable size for the garden. This is an application to repreat previous works. Remove lower limb growing over the house, this limb is over extended and in the future will possibly damage the root. Please call to discuss this future if you wish. • P14/S4566/TPO Granted

Pinecroft, 29 Stoke Row Road, Peppard Common, Henley-on-Thames

Scots Pine (T10) This specimen shows an extensive area of decay in the area of test. Consider extensive remedial treatment or complete removal. Monitor on a regular basis if retained for future structureal changes. Tree is within falling distance of main dwelling and would appear to have not coped physiologically with changes to its environment (house building and landscaping. The tree features reasonably vitality and extension growth. There is a secondary canopy which may potentially be used for veteranising this tree. The large pruning wound will effectively allow decay ingress which can be managed with further retrenchment pruning over the next ten years. I suggest a succession tree is planted with a suitable position being evident to the west of the site behind the existing tree, ideally another Scots Pine. Both pruning and planting to be carried out December 2014. T10 Pine Spec: S15 Fell tree to ground level. Reason: R2 To ensure future compatibility with site, surroundings and usage Reason: R4 To address potential hazard Reason: R6 Poor health, structural condition of form (delete as appropriate)

T9 - Sycamore - fell because of excessive shading and low amenity value. T9 Sycamore Spec: S15 Fell tree to ground level. T1 - Beech tree to be removed - this tree is suppressed and has a low amenity value. Replant with another Beech nearby. T2, 3, 4 - Beech trees to be reduced all round by approximately 20% of their foliage capacity (1-1.5m) and the canopies lifted to a height of 5m. This work is to help contain the trees in their position as they are dominating the neighbouring property and suppressing a young Oak (memorial tree) in the neighbouring garden. T1 has had a lot of branches removed in the past (40%-50% of the canopy) so has no long term viability.

We are in an area that has protected areas/groups. Our roadside ditch has self seeded trees growing through it, which is preventing us from maintaining it. This ditch takes water run off from the A40. The ditch is so silted up that in heavy rain fall floods our land, and also the drive of one of our properties Oxford Lodge. We are seeking to fell these trees, scrub out the dead and dying ivy covered trees and hedge, then clean out the ditch and replant the hedge. This would have numerous benefits that we can renew our boundary fence to make us stockproof again as we keep sheep. It will also provide a better habitat for bird life with a more varied place for nesting. It will also be safer for traffic on the A40 as the risk of branches falling on the highway will be reduced. We also plan to replant the trees from a previous application ref TPO 52B02MG as these would have good place to be able to grow. Please see attached 1 & 2 photos from google earth with highlighted area for application.

T1 - Yew tree We have consulted a tree surgeon who stated that whilst it is hard to estimate the age of yew trees in particular, without the photographic evidence he suggested 100-200 years. The photographic evidence clearly narrows that date range. We may therefore conclude that the yew tree currently growing beside the 1792 tomb probably dates from around 1900 (midway between 1880 and 1900). Opinion of Tree Surgeon regarding safety However, although the tree appears at first glance to be a single stem, the surgeon advised that the tree is not a single stem but a co-dominant stem, creating a point of weakness where the two stems diverge. He further advised that if the church-side stem were to fall for any reason it would do so towards the church, with a potential for major damage to the chancel and the lady chapel, including the Kempe windows. Given that: a) the 1792 tomb tree is almost certainly no older than 100 years; b) it causes repeated damage to the grade II* listed church in that, despite pruning, it sheds dead leaves into the valley between the chancel and lady chapel roofs, creating leaks that have repeatedly soaked the roof timbers and internal wall of the lady chapel; c) it blocks the light from the two CE Kempe east windows of the church, thereby substantially reducing their visual impact and detracting from the Kempe's work and from the overall aesthetic value of the grade II* church; d) it is jeopardising the continued existence of the grade II listed 1792 tomb; e) if the tree were to fail at its point of weakness, there is potential for major damage to the grade II* listed church. Permission is therefore requested to fell the said yew tree and treat the stump so as to prevent any regrowth. The church would be prepared to plant a replacement tree elsewhere in the churchyard. T1 - Walnut T1 - Walnut. Crown reduce by 20-25%. This tree has a large wound on the main stem where a large secondary stem has been lost. Consequently the crown is quite unbalanced. There is some risk of the tree failing at this point and in any case the tree is quite overbearing on the property and not well shaped. The pruning will result in a tree with better balance and lesser risk of failure. Remarks:

T5 - Yew Tree - Crown lift to 3 metres. To allow better light to footpath and street from street lamp. (G2)T10 - London Plane - Crown reduce by 25% to reduce the height and radial spread of the tree by around 2 metres. Lower growth to be removed to raise the crown to 4 metres. This tree has suffered storm damage and the leading stem has split out. Crown reduction will rebalance the crown and prevent further damage. This tree is also close to property and windows of the flats in 2 Michaelis Road. Residents report that this tree has significant effect on light in their rooms. (G2)T11 - Norway Maple - Crown lift to 5 metres. (G2)T12 - Norway Maple - Remove this tree. (G2)T13 - London Plane - Crown lift to 5 metres. (G2)T14 & T15 - Willow - Repollard back to previous pollard points. These works on Trees 11-15 are mainly to alleviate the very considerable shade problems caused by this line of trees. Residents of the adjacent flats 3-9 all suffer will reduced daylight into their properties and gardens as these trees are all large and relatively close. T12 is a poorly formed specimen without space to develop a balanced crown. As an individual it has no particuar merit in terms of amenity value. Removal of this tree will have a positiveeffect on light levels to several of the nearest properties. Also removal of T12 will have a positive benefit on the two adjacent trees which will not become cramped for space and will also look better.
