I wish to fell and completely remove a Bramley apple tree. The tree is 20-25cm diameter at 1.5 m high. It was planted, I believe, in the 1930s, alongside the property boundary wall. It is in poor health and no longer produces good fruit (so a replacement tree was planted a few years ago, which has now reached maturity). An arborist has advised that it was a mistake to plant such a tree on a wall in the first place.

    1 Manston Terrace Exeter EX2 4NP

T1 over-mature Monterey Pine growing at the back of the rear garden of 1 Manston Terrace, in close proximity to Barrack Road - Remove and replace with one English oak, Quercus robur in a location at greater distance from the house at No. 81. Reasons The trunk is 5m from the house at 81 Barrack Road and can be described as the wrong tree in the wrong place. The tree is considered to have outgrown its location, immediately adjacent to Barrack Road. It is growing over the top of 81 Barrack Road and is dominating the property. Neighbours at 81 and 79 have major concerns about the tree. Options for management of this tree are limited due to its age, form and species. This is an over-mature specimen of a fast growing species. Monterey pines in the UK are vulnerable to losing big branches in gales, according to Mitchell (1996, p.126). A replacement tree in more suitable location within the garden will provide a specimen that can be the right tree in the right place for the future, providing replacement amenity value in the mid-long term. See accompanying report and plan.

Consent is requested for works to cut back the Magnolia tree marked on the plan. Prior to works (with permission) carried out to the Yew Tree which is subject to a TPO, this tree was forced to grow in a very lopsidded manner (see photos provided). This tree sits near the right hand side boundary fence with No 10 and has become rather large given its location. We with to cut it back by a maximun if 2.5m on the advice of the contractors we used to cut back the Yew Tree. This is to allow it to grow in a more balanced way and to remove over crowded branches. We expect this will help with the health and aeastghetic of this tree. Consent has previoulsy been obtained to cut back Magnolia trees located within the boundary of our other neighbours at no 6. We would emply suitable contractors to carry out this work at an appropriate time of the year.

Sketch plan: 62 EGR Dead Tree Location The cherry tree in our garden last blossomed in the spring of 2024, but then soon after dropped its leaves and has been bare since. We consulted a tree surgeon last year who advised the tree was dead, likely as a result of inadequate available soil nutrients for the tree, given its location in a small terrace house walled garden. We left the tree a year to see if it would recover, but in 2025 it did not blossom and has remained without leaf. A second tree surgeon was consulted recently and confirmed the tree is dead and advised it should be removed. The tree?s branches overhang a public footpath and neighbouring gardens. It is approximately 3 metres to the top of the canopy. We would like to remove the remains of the tree entirely before it becomes a safety issue for us, neighbours or those using the public walkway.

LAND OPPOSITE GENEVA CLOSE, WONFORD ROAD, EXETER

I am applying to reduce the face of the line of Evergreen Oaks that make up a hedge at Lister Close identified on the sketch map (scan 09-09-25_2055) as TPO 544. The hedge can be seen in IMG_20250731-092442, IMG_20250731-092546 and IMG_20250731-092413 which also show the extent to which it is encroaching onto the roadside. I am proposing to reduce the face that is encroaching onto the access road and Lamp post by approximately 6 feet (due to cutting back to appropriate pruning points) along the length of the hedge adjoining the roadside which is approximately 22.8m. Pruning the trees back by 6 feet will clear the Lamp post that is currently covered allowing light back onto the access road and also allow more visibility for the vehicles that use the Road. The two pictures attached; IMG_20250731-092506 and IMG_20250731-092425 show the branches making up the face of the hedge. As shown in the photos there are adequate pruning points that could be cut back to that would leave minimal wounds to the branches and plenty of points of new growth.

Rear Side Boundary G1 - Bay & Pittosporum - Reduce to a finished height of approximately neighbouring property gutter height. Trim the remaining canopy's hard back to previous pruning points & shape. Remove epicormic growth from both trees to achieve clear stems. T2 - Lower Garden Area - 1x Pittosporum - Reduce in height to approximately neighbouring property gutter height. Trim the remaining canopy hard back to previous pruning points & shape. T3 - 1x Viburnum - Crown reduce in height by removing approximately 1.50 metres from branch tips while retaining the main framework & shape of the crown & therefore a high proportion of the foliage bearing structure. All pruning cuts to be made at suitable growth points Remove all cut material from site & return to a Devon Tree Services depot for recycling, leaving the area safe, clean & tidy. Justification for Proposed Works The proposed works to the Bay, Pittosporum, and Viburnum are intended to maintain the trees at an appropriate size in a residential garden setting and to prevent them from becoming over-dominant. The works will improve light levels into both the garden and the adjacent properties, reducing shading while retaining the trees as amenity features within the conservation area. All reductions will be sympathetic, with pruning cuts made at suitable growth points in accordance with BS 3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations. Canopies will be trimmed back to previous pruning points to maintain natural shape and form, while retaining a high proportion of the foliage-bearing structure to ensure continued health and vitality. Epicormic growth will be removed to provide clear stems and improve overall tree form. The proposed works are considered proportionate, ensuring the trees remain healthy and in keeping with their setting, while balancing the reasonable enjoyment of the property by the occupants.
