My client is looking to take some weight of a sycamore tree ( T1 ) the tree is leaning towards a fairly busy road I have suggested that we carry out a 15% radial crown reduction. Bring the cuts back to 2nd growth points this will be a sufficient amount of growth/weight to help with the lean whilst keeping the tree healthy. There is a old sycamore coppice ( G1 ) which is over crowded and not letting in much light for the garden underneath to strive. I have suggested removing any dead wood within the crown, a 15% radial crown reduction bringing the cuts back to 2nd growth points and removing the 2nd leader to open up for more sun light.

Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) (T1) - Fell, height: 20m, Crown spread N:5m, S:3m, E:6m, W:4m The primary concern regarding the tree is its safety when considering its proximity to the property (6m). The tree is inclined towards the building and is growing in a dominant elevated position atop a bank in an area susceptible to high winds. If the tree should fail, it would strike the dwelling. The loading and weight is biased towards the property with the crown of the tree extending towards the accommodation. The height of the tree can be considered oppressive and has an impact on the owners ability to enjoy the safe use of their accommodation. The tree is interefing with the property owner's amenity and enjoyment of their property and creating a private nuisance due to: - Stress caused during periods of high winds (property owner is avoiding using rooms that are closest to the tree) - A significant obstruction of natural light In order to fully abate these concerns we would request to remove the tree and replace with a smaller tree appropriate for the space and location. See tree report for further assessment.

Fell beech tree (T1). Located in in Wayside Cottage garden in front of the garage and close to the Pavement of Daddyhole road. The beech tree has a large growth of Fomes Fomentarius on the trunk. Fomes Fomentarius causes wood to rot and become spongy which culminates in the death of the host. Due to the size and location of the tree this instability is a considerable risk to the surrounding area. During the recent months a number of branches have fallen from the tree indicating that the tree is slowly dying, some of these have landed on parked cars, on my garage and one only just missing a pedestrian. The tree has become is oversized for the raised area it is growing on and as if dies it is becoming more likely that the entire tree will fall, creating a substantial danger to life and property. The Beech Tree is growing on a very small raised area held up by a crumbling wall, so the base of the tree does not have a very substantial platform, should the tree fall it is close enough to damage 3 neighbouring properties and my property especially my garage, parked cars or cars driving along Daddyhole Road, which is a busy road, also pedestrians as it is a busy area for pedestrians especially dog walkers heading to Daddyhole Plain. This tree is also less then 3 metres from another tree of equal size which currently is not infected by this fungus but due to the fact that this fungus release spores it could easily become infected and then also pose danger to life and property. The felling of the diseased tree would provide more space for the other Beech tree and help safeguard the other tree from becoming infected. Due to the proximity of property, the road and the neighbouring Beech tree and the fact it is on a raised wall, it would be advantageous not to plant a tree in its place. Not planting a tree would benefit the other Beech tree. The tree is approximately 7 to 8 metres this is a rough approximation as I have no way of measuring it. I have a sketc

Re Pollard Chestnut. It is considered that the proposal to re-pollard the horse chestnut is appropriate. As the tree has been previously pollarded the re-growth will not be as strongly attached to the parent stem as naturally formed growth, as such if the re-growth is allowed to get too heavy it can be liable to snapping out during unsettled weather. Also the horse chestnut overhangs the main road, and would have the potential to cause damage should it fail. There are a number of other substantial trees in the adjacent area to the horse chestnut. Due to the other trees in the area, the proposed works are unlikely to have any detrimental impact on the amenity of the area and as such it is recommended that the works are approved.
