Tree was inspected in the end of September by request of the hotel management. Located in a raised bedding area this Mature Chestnut ( Aesculus hippocastanum ) in a parking area of the hotel, within 5m of the building on 2 sides. Previously pollarded around 7-8 years ago due to die back in the upper crown. Has not recovered as one would have expected with poor regrowth. There are current fruiting bodies on the main stem as attached photo. A member of the 'Ganoderma Spp' Which could be a factor in the trees decline. Located approx. 3m up the main stem building side of the tree – as attached photo - Stem mallet tested with a dull sound recorded around the fruiting body which could indicate decayed interior with weakened structural integrity. A poor pruning cut at the crown break is showing clear signs of decay and entry route for pathogens. With potential weakening of the main union which is likely the area for potential failure. Further evidence of old pruning wounds around the crown break, by the looks of the upper stem growth this was likely a very historic low level pollard when the tree was young. Which could also be a weakness during stressed periods and weakened internal structure. It has been requested we fell the tree due to the above and fears of potential failure.

T2 – Oak: Reduce crown height and lateral spread by approximately 2 metres, cutting back to suitable secondary growth points in accordance with BS3998:2010 (Tree Work – Recommendations), to maintain a natural shape and balanced crown. Current height approximately 18 metres, reduced height will be 16 metres. Current spread approximately 18 metres, reduced spread will be 16 metres. Reason: To manage the overall size of the tree within its residential garden setting, improve light levels to the property and garden as well as neighbouring gardens, and reduce end-weight on lateral limbs to minimise the risk of branch failure, ensuring the tree can be retained in good condition long-term.

This application proposes to remove existing Thuja occidental (White Cedar), marked as T8 on drawing submitted with this application. The existing tree within the private driveway offers no ecological or visual benefit to the surrounding conservation area, it's removal will not have a negative impact to the local wildlife or ecological network. Potential replacement of said non-native tree will be based on landscape design together with arboriculturist advice. This is to ensure a more appropriate native species is chosen which could have a greater contribution to the surrounding conservation area. The landscape design will be submitted to the Local authority as part of conditional discharge related to planning approval 22/3802/VRC.

STREET RECORD Fairways Teddington
COMMUNAL TREE T15 Deodar Cedar (Cedrus deodara) The tree was reported to have started to show signs of severe decline in the last month or so, dropping needles and yellowing of needles. There is no obvious sign of a reason for this. The treenow looks dead. The tree has always looked in relatively poor condition since I have known it (around 15 years), which is probably associated with the historic change of ground conditions when the estate was built. Trees do not cope well when the ground levels are changed near the base, the roots get compacted with raising the ground level or exposed and damaged when the levels are dropped - it appears the ground level was significantly raised in this case. However, this was around 50 years ago so one would expect the tree to have died sooner if the change in ground level was the cause of the tree's decline. There is exudate (sap like substance) all around the stem at around 1-2m which is an indication of poor condition/stress. Fell to low stump - due to the tree being within a pit and in poor condition.

As described on '33SHL-FruitTreeLocations.png': Red Cross Marked Tree - Mature Apple Tree (Eadible, unknown species) Blue Cross Marked Tree - Mature Pear Tree (Eadible, unknown species) Proposed Works: Apple Tree - Fell Pear Tree - Fell Reasoning: Apple Tree - main trunk shows poor tree form with multiple deformed and awkard branches. Tree overhangs neighbouring property (including outbuildings). Large quantities of apples produced presents a pest issue in the summer/autumn attracting hornets/wasps, rats/mice, birds. Tree creates excessive shading over remainder of modestly sized garden area. Pear Tree - main trunk shows poor tree form and leans excessively away from boundary fence across path through the garden. Large quantities of pears produced presents a pest issue in the summer/autumn attracting hornets/wasps, rats/mice, birds. Replacement Proposal: Replanting of a new apple tree and pear tree against boundary fence and grown as espaliers. Given the proximity of our property to School House Lane Orchard, proposal to the local community that run the orchard that I will plant a specialist variety apple tree in place.
