UPDATE FURTHER INFO RECEIVED Please find attached below the plan of our house plot supplied by my solicitor when we purchased the property. On this plan Ive marked the position and size of the tree crown as requested. My neighbour has expressed his concern that a number of smaller branches have fallen onto his lawn over the past months and hes far from happy as his grand children were in the garden when one of the branches fell very close to where they were playing narrowly avoiding an injury. Appreciate this was not a huge branch but I dont want to be held liable for any injury to a child now that Ive registered my concern with the tree. I Look forward to a quick response and resolution to start work on this tree in an attempt to save it by reducing the crown size by the permissible percentage. We believe the sycamore tree in our back garden is either dying or in ill health. We would like to perform a crown reduction in the attempt to give the tree a chance to recover from the building works done near to the root ball. The tree is located on a new build housing estate and we believe having spoken to a tree surgeon the tree is either dying or gone into shock. The tree had completely shed all its leaves by mid-August. Shoots are now appearing at the base of the tree from the roots.

Mature Eucalyptus (T2) - Fell. The tree has recently shed a large diameter branch (circa 450mm) during calm weather conditions onto the road (blocking it). It poses a threat to the highway and adjacent land owners so should be felled to ensure the owner of the tree is acting in accordance with their Duty of Care to their neighbours. In my opinion this branch failure was completely unforeseeable because there are no obvious defects that would have been visible from the ground or by a climbing assessment. You will note the leaves from the fallen branch are also completely healthy (see photo). In my opinion this failure also appears to be indicative of summer branch drop. However, there is some obvious discolouration of the branch cross section (see photo) which indicates the trees defensive mechanism has been activated, the cause of this is not clear. I have also considered the impact of removing T1 (for similar reasons) which would expose the canopy of T2, altering the wind loading dynamic, adding to an already complex situation. As an additional supporting argument for removing this tree, I refer to the following regarding summer branch drop. "A tree that has lost one limb is more likely to lose another than a similar nearby tree of the same species is to lose its first branch" (Harris et al, 2004. P.428, Arboriculture 4th Edition). Replant with a container grown 1-1.5m Scots pine.

Because of the bad pruning work the tree is now unbalanced. I would like to prune the SW facing branches back from the 2 adjacent buildings to bring into shape with the rest of the tree and reduce shade on the adjacent houses. Reduce south side by 2m - making cuts of 150mm or less. T3 - London plan Platanus x acerifolia This tree is in good health although children are climbing and using the low branches for a swing. I would like to crown lift to 2.5 metres to give more light and stop children potentially having an accident. T6 - Common Lime Tila x vulgaris This tree is in the communal gardens and is casting a lot of shade on the surrounding houses. I would like to crown lift by 2.5m from ground level to reduce the dark oppressive feel for the residents.
