Part of G5 Preservation Group - 1 x Hawthorn (identified in Tree Survey Document as T4824) - fell to ground level. Reason: Basal failure onto parked car due to decay and crown dieback. T001 2006.014 - Cedar (identified in Tree Survey Document as T4827) - reduce limb by 40% to reduce stress at fracture point. Reason: Hazard beam axial fracture visible with decay beneath bark- likely due to an historic high-sided vehicle strike. Low end-weight relative to girth at union suggests low likelihood of failure. Lowest limb failure onto parked car considered. T603 Norway Maple (identified in Tree Survey Document as T4829) - fell to ground level. Reason: Ivy-clad base and unions into lower crown. Crown dieback to approximately 50%, but 100% on southern side. Internal decay detected by hammer acoustic test. Poor unions ? included bark. Limb failure into road considered.

OAK (C on map) The current dimensions are width 10.6m x 12.2m high. As you can see in the photos, some of the branches are touching the roof of the garage. Recommendation - 2 metres crown reduction BEECH (B on map) The current dimensions are width 12.2m x 18.2 high. Recommended crown reduction of 3 metres to keep in proportion to size of garden and also prevent sap damage to neighbour's thatched roof. ACER (A on map) The current dimensions are width 10.6 x 13.7 high Recommended reduction of 3 metres, again to keep in proportion to the size of the garden and also to prevent sap from damaging another neighbours thatched roof. All these dimensions are approximate and all trees are in good condition because of continuing maintenance.

1 x Holm Oak which is situated on the northern aspect of number 9 Pilmuir Avenue. Re-pollard to previous pollard points at approximately 6 metres above ground level. All arising material shall be removed from site and returned to our premises for recycling. Justification: 1. Cyclical Maintenance: As stated in BS3998 (Section 7.10)., once pollarding is initiated, it should be maintained by cutting new branches on a regular cycle. The frequency of re-pollarding depends on factors like species and site management. This tree's new growth is around 4 metres long therefore in line with the management objectives of the site we are proposing to re-pollard, to manage its size and maintain the intended structure at 6 metres above ground level. 2. Selective Cutting to Avoid Decay: BS3998 emphasises that during each cycle of pollarding, selective pruning is necessary to maintain some live branch material. To achieve this we will not be cutting back past knuckles but to just above to retain some functional material to establish new growth and prevent the spread of long term decay. Summary: The pollarding will reduce the trees overall height from 10 metres to 6 metres above ground level by removing the new growth of 4 metres to the previous pollard points. These sections provide a solid basis for re-pollarding the tree in line with recommendations set out within BS3998, ensuring the health and structural integrity of the Holm Oak in the short to long-term.

T1 Horse Chestnut: Reduce crown in height by 4m to leave a tree of 18m height Reduce crown from east by 2m to leave a tree of with crown spread 4 - 5m to east. Reduce crown from south by 1m to leave a tree of with crown spread 7m to south. Reduce crown from west by 3m to leave a tree of with crown spread 4m to west. Reason for works: The proposed reduction is to reduce loadings on branches and therefore reduce the risk of branch failure. It is also to attempt to rebalance the tree. See QTRA report for further details.

Mayfield Meadow Road Torquay TQ2 6PR
T1 is a mature Monterey Pine (pinus radiata) which is growing adjacent to the boundary between Thornhill Cottage and Mayfield. The tree trunk is within the garden of Thornhill Cottage but the crown overhangs both the gardens of Mayfield and Thornhill Cottage, as seen on the attached plan. Branch unions appear good and the parts of the main stem which could be inspected from Mayfield appear sound. However, one large large lower limb has suffered a compression failure in storm force winds, and there is a fracture across it and associated cavity which is ~25 cm deep. An aerial inspection confirmed the extent of the split. It is proposed to remove this branch (back to the main stem) to remove risk of branch failure in further high winds. In addition, there is evidence of decline and shoot dieback in parts of the crown, and the tree regularly sheds cones into Mayfield's garden during hot or windy conditions. It is proposed to remove crown deadwood, pruning each dead branch back to a healthy growing point, and to remove cones where these are attached poorly and at risk of falling onto people or property underneath causing injury or death. This tree has suffered previous cracks and splits in large branches and has had previous remedial works carried out. This sensitive intervention now continues work to ensure that this tree which is of significance in the conservation area landscape can continue to be enjoyed safely in the winter to come.

Flat 7 Wilverley Wheatridge Lane Torquay TQ2 6RB
T1 - Sycamore south of the property - Pollard back to primary pollard points with final cuts made at approximately X4 metres from ground level. Initiate a well-balanced candelabra framework for future branch structure to establish. Tree is heavily leaning over railway lines on a steep bank with recent limb failures apparent in the tree. These works will massively reduce the wind sale effect especially when the tree is located in a very exposed location. T2 - Sycamore to the east of property - Crown reduce by 2-3m from the branch tips overall back to suitable pruning points while retaining the main framework & shape of the crown & therefore a high proportion of the foliage bearing structure. Tree is showing lower leaf density than expected at the time of year. Pruning the tree will reduce the wind sale effect on a very exposed location. Pruning cuts will not exceed 50mm in diameter. T2 existing height is 15m and post height after reducing is 12m.
