As the tree has been pollarded cyclical maintenance is considered to be good arboricultural practice. Additionally the work will improve the ventilation of the area and reduce rotting of the wooden decks below.

AREA 1 The footpath entrance (22 sq m) to Archery Lane from Southgate Street is to be relaid with the existing concrete block paving to remove traffic depressions (This will be under the control of HCC Highways under a Section171 Agreement) The existing concrete block setts after the footpath and into Archery Lane are also to be levelled and relaid caused by continual traffic (65 sq m) and a new tarmac apron is to be relaid to regrade from the relevelled concrete setts to a new tarmac cut line in order to remove the damaged tarmac hump (10 sq m) this will involve planing off 30 mm deep existing tarmac and replacing with new AREA 2. The ramp further along Archery Lane to the left which is badly damaged with patched tarmac from previous trench excavations is to be relaid by planning off 30 mm of existing the existing tarmac surface and replacing with new. (183 sq m) AREA 3 The existing concrete setts between the housing in Archery lane are also to be lifted and relaid to eliminate traffic depressions and ponding, (240sqm) There will be no change of use or appearance, but will provide a more levelled and drained surface for the regular traffic in Archery Lane.
