What a grant of permission means
The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About trees applications
How this application type works
Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Oak: Removal of new growth. Pigeons fouling lawn and patio plus hedge maintenance. The oak tree is approximately 12 metres in height and approximately 8 metres in width when viewed from my property and looking northwards. I am asking permission to cut back the new growth, on the southerly side of the tree, which overhangs the boundary fence, by between 600mm and 900mm depending on individual twig growth and hedge back to the previous position. This action will not impact on either the height nor width profile of the tree when viewed looking north. Leylandii: Reduce new growth back to property boundary. Hedging work required to control growth and maintain shape

Pinchington Lodge Pinchington Lane Greenham Thatcham RG19 8SR
T1 - Oak: The oak tree exhibits significant decay within the main stem and has previously suffered a major limb failure, resulting in substantial canopy loss. The tree is now leaning towards the adjacent property. Reduce to a monolith at approximately 2 metres (5/6 feet) in height for habitat purposes. T2, T3, T4 and T5 - Oaks (Group of 4): These mature oak trees overhang the neighbouring property (Beeridge and Co Builders Ltd). Works are required to mitigate risk from falling branches and manage overall size. Crown reduction by 2/3 metres. Final finished height: approximately 16/17 metres. Final crown spread: approximately 9/11 metres T6 - Ash (multi-stem): This ash tree is affected by ash dieback and is in decline. There is evidence of previous limb failure, significant deadwood, and a large suspended branch. Heavy pollard reduction by approximately 4/5 metres. Final finished height: approximately 12/13 metres. Final crown spread: approximately 6/8 metres

The trees are a mix of Beech, Hawthorn, Holly, Norway Maple and oak. We would like to raise the crown to stop damage to the trees from vehicles. The trees are labelled T1-15 on the arboricultural plans over the main carpark and not numbered for the northern end of the site. We are looking at raising the crown for the trees along the road side of the site (east) to no more than 3.5 meters above ground level. We will not be felling any trees. Over the last 10 years we have planted over 100 small samplings and hedgerow saplings around the site and continue to plant more every year.

Please see accompanying recommended works from Jenks tree surgeons. Relates to three purple plum trees. We intend to reduce each by 1-1.5m which will reduce remaining height to approximately 2.5-3m in order to bring the trees back into scale with their surroundings.
