Proposal

This application seeks consent for the continued display of temporary advertisements and signage associated with events, activities and facilities within Tooting Common for the period 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2031. The proposed advertisements comprise a range of temporary banners, signs, flags, A-boards, freestanding display units and event branding associated with community events, cultural activities, sporting events, markets, recreational programmes and park facilities. The advertisements will primarily provide event information, wayfinding, operational guidance and promotional material relating to activities taking place within Wandsworth Park. Signage will be located at established advertising positions throughout the park, including entrance gates, event sites, sports facilities, concession areas and other designated event locations. Advertisements will vary in size, design and material depending on the specific event or activity but will remain temporary in nature and displayed only for the period necessary to support individual events and park operations. The application includes advertising associated with: Event and activity banners Directional and wayfinding signage Sports, recreation and facility signage Temporary event branding Community event and market signage Freestanding display units and flags Illuminated and non-illuminated signage where appropriate All advertisements will be displayed in accordance with the Agreement for the Hire of Wandsworth Park and in line with the supporting plans and appendices submitted as part of this application. I would use essentially this wording for all of the remaining parks, simply changing the park-specific references and tweaking the activities slightly: Tooting Common ??? add festivals, Country on the Common, sporting events, community activities. Wandsworth Common ??? community events, sporting activities, fairs, outdoor recreation. King George's Park ??? sports tournaments, community events, funfairs (where applicable), recreation. Barn Elms Sports Centre ??? sporting events, tournaments, training programmes and visitor information. Falcon Park & Shillington Park ??? community events, recreation, family activities and sports. Furzedown Recreation Ground ??? community events, seasonal activities, recreation and sports.

The process from here

This application is with Wandsworth for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.

The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.

About advertising applications

How this application type works

Advertisement consent controls signs, hoardings and other adverts. The council may only judge two things: amenity, meaning the effect on the appearance of the building and area, and public safety, chiefly whether a sign distracts road users or obstructs sight lines. Other planning considerations, such as competition between businesses, do not apply.
