T3 Yew Crown Reduction (preferred option 1) Option 1 - reduce the height by 3m from branch tips, remove 1m from the east and south sides, nothing from the west side ? pruning back to suitable growth points. Option 2 - reduce the height by 2m from branch tips, 0.75m from the east side and 1m from the south side. Crown lift Crown lift over shed on south-west side by lifting up to 2.5m above ground level, shaped in naturally. Pruning back to suitable growth points. Reasons for works This tree is growing close to the rear of the house and dominates views into the garden. The garden has lacked long term management works for the last decade, this tree has outgrown its context. Pruning works are proposed in order to allow reasonable usage of the garden. Pruning works are proposed to manage the size of this tree which has very dense foliage, with very little light penetration all year round. Yews respond well to pruning, with regard to regrowth and resistance to decay.

AT/2024/0274 Granted
Mayfield Meadow Road Torquay TQ2 6PR
T1 is a mature Monterey Pine (pinus radiata) which is growing adjacent to the boundary between Thornhill Cottage and Mayfield. The tree trunk is within the garden of Thornhill Cottage but the crown overhangs both the gardens of Mayfield and Thornhill Cottage, as seen on the attached plan. Branch unions appear good and the parts of the main stem which could be inspected from Mayfield appear sound. However, one large large lower limb has suffered a compression failure in storm force winds, and there is a fracture across it and associated cavity which is ~25 cm deep. An aerial inspection confirmed the extent of the split. It is proposed to remove this branch (back to the main stem) to remove risk of branch failure in further high winds. In addition, there is evidence of decline and shoot dieback in parts of the crown, and the tree regularly sheds cones into Mayfield's garden during hot or windy conditions. It is proposed to remove crown deadwood, pruning each dead branch back to a healthy growing point, and to remove cones where these are attached poorly and at risk of falling onto people or property underneath causing injury or death. This tree has suffered previous cracks and splits in large branches and has had previous remedial works carried out. This sensitive intervention now continues work to ensure that this tree which is of significance in the conservation area landscape can continue to be enjoyed safely in the winter to come.

T1 Blue - x1 Mature Holm Oak - Crown lift secondary & sub lateral branch growth only, to provide a clearance of approximately x5.0 metres between ground level and foliage tips, to achieve the desired vertical clearance above the boundary fence & adjacent garden area. Remaining pruning cuts shall not exceed 40 mm in diameter. Remove all cut material from site & return to a Devon Tree Services depot for recycling, leaving the area safe, clean & tidy. G1- Holm Oak, Laurel, Ivy- Rear Garden Areas of 5, Valley View Close - Laurel, Holm Oak & Ivy Growth - Cut back all overhanging branch growth hard to the boundary line. The trees all overhang heavily into the adjacent garden areas of 5, 7 & 9 Valley View Close. The proposed works are to reduce excessive shading into all properties & garden areas. The younger smaller holm oak stems are touching & damaging the boundary fence, removal is to stop further damage occurring. The proposed works will not impact on the overall amenity value of the area.

T1 - Sycamore south of the property - Pollard back to primary pollard points with final cuts made at approximately X4 metres from ground level. Initiate a well-balanced candelabra framework for future branch structure to establish. Tree is heavily leaning over railway lines on a steep bank with recent limb failures apparent in the tree. These works will massively reduce the wind sale effect especially when the tree is located in a very exposed location. T2 - Sycamore to the east of property - Crown reduce by 2-3m from the branch tips overall back to suitable pruning points while retaining the main framework & shape of the crown & therefore a high proportion of the foliage bearing structure. Tree is showing lower leaf density than expected at the time of year. Pruning the tree will reduce the wind sale effect on a very exposed location. Pruning cuts will not exceed 50mm in diameter. T2 existing height is 15m and post height after reducing is 12m.
