Planning application

5 Fothergill Place, Thame, OX9 2BP

Granted South Oxfordshire P26/S1026/TPO Works to TPO

Works: Trees Small domestic

Read from the description, not a valuation. How we read the register

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

Single Standard Maple Tree. Fell and replace with half-standard maple tree. Age and Height: The tree was planted to replace a Willow in 2011. Now 15 years on, at 10M+ high, it's taller than the house. Position: The tree was planted just 90cm from our boundary wall and 3.5M from the house. We estimate the lateral spread of the roots now to be somewhere between 7.5-15Metres. Potential Damage: Two years ago, we needed to call Thames Water as we had a problem with our water supply. We believe this may have been damaged by tree roots and that we may see further problems to foundations, sewage and water supplies in future.

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
