This tree would certainly respond well to pollarding and in this location a pollarded willow would work well as there are many other pollards along the nearby Cuttlebrook stream/watercourse.   T1 - Maple - crown reduce by around 20% of the crown volume. Height and radial spread of tree to be reduced by up to 2m. This tree has somewhat weak unions at crown break and crown reduction as specified would significantly reduce the risk of failure whilst maintaining the good amenity value of the tree. T2 - London Plane - Tip reduce limbs extended toward buildings to give a minimum of 2.5m clearance. This work is only to avoid tree coming into contact with building and to maintain a reasonable clearance. T3 - London Plane - Make new pollard at a height of around 10 metres from ground level. T4 & 5 - Willow - Repollard both trees back to the previous pollard points. T3, 4, 5 are all very overbearing on the Michaelis Road flats in the small gardens of which these large trees are growing. The trees are situated to the east of the flats and effectively block natural sunlight to the windows of the living spaces on this side of the block. Periodic repollarding of these trees at a high point in the crowns would allow considerably more light through without greatly diminishing the amenity value of the trees. T6 - Yew - remove lower growth over No.1 to raise crown to 3m and improve crown balance. This work is to improve crown shape and balance. T7 - Maple - crown reduce by around 20% of crown volume. The height and radial spread of the tree to be reduced by around 1.5m only. This work is to gently reduce the overall size of the tree, maintain good amenity value without it becoming overbearing in relation to 39 Old Union Way.   T16 - Poplar - fell. The tree leans towards the property and is too large for its position. The tree dominates the back garden. The crown has become very large causing excessive shading and the tree has lost four branches recently in the windy weather. Our client has young children and they are naturally concerned about the tree as a potential hazard.The roots are also beginning to reach towards the property, causing cracking to the patio. In addition, the tree produces hugh amounts of pollen seeds and white fluff (pukh). During this period the garden is ankle deep in the fluff which makes the garden unusable to our client and her family. Basic use of the outside space - play by their children and even hanging out the families washing is impossible. Our client is also requesting a specialist Arb report to assess whether two cracked windows to the property could have been caused by the tree. This will follow shortly.
