Proposal

Black poplar to pollard tree back to old pollard unions, remove deadwood and epicormic and tidy throughout. T26 - Willow - pollard tree to a height of around 3.5m. This tree has shed a hugh limb/main stem during recent months. Although there is no visible decay in the remaining large central stem we feel that this tree is now of a size, age, species and condiiton where further storm damage will become likely. This tree would certainly respond well to pollarding and in this location a pollarded willow would work well as there are many other pollards along the nearby Cuttlebrook stream/watercourse. T26 Willow Spec: S1 T26 Willow, Pollard tree to a height of around 3.5m Reason: R1 Sound arboricultural management Reason: R4 To address potential hazard

T1, T2, T3 - Willow (G4) - crown reduce - reducing the height of the trees by 3-4 metres and the radial spread by around 2-3m. The work is being carrie dout to maintain these trees in safe and attractive condition. The trees are somewhat drawn and etiolated which is likely to result in an incresing likelihood of failure if they continue to grow without some form of pruning to reduce the crowns. G4 Group consisting of 4 Willow Spec: S1 Reduce crown height by approx 3-4m, evenly reduce lateral spread by approx 2-3m Spec: S1 prunting cuts should not exceed 75mm Spec: S19 Please add the following at the end of all the aprroved works: All pruning cuts must be made at bra Reason: R2 To ensure future compatibility with site, surroundings and usage

T1 - Maple - crown reduce by around 20% of the crown volume. Height and radial spread of tree to be reduced by up to 2m. This tree has somewhat weak unions at crown break and crown reduction as specified would significantly reduce the risk of failure whilst maintaining the good amenity value of the tree. T2 - London Plane - Tip reduce limbs extended toward buildings to give a minimum of 2.5m clearance. This work is only to avoid tree coming into contact with building and to maintain a reasonable clearance. T3 - London Plane - Make new pollard at a height of around 10 metres from ground level. T4 & 5 - Willow - Repollard both trees back to the previous pollard points. T3, 4, 5 are all very overbearing on the Michaelis Road flats in the small gardens of which these large trees are growing. The trees are situated to the east of the flats and effectively block natural sunlight to the windows of the living spaces on this side of the block. Periodic repollarding of these trees at a high point in the crowns would allow considerably more light through without greatly diminishing the amenity value of the trees. T6 - Yew - remove lower growth over No.1 to raise crown to 3m and improve crown balance. This work is to improve crown shape and balance. T7 - Maple - crown reduce by around 20% of crown volume. The height and radial spread of the tree to be reduced by around 1.5m only. This work is to gently reduce the overall size of the tree, maintain good amenity value without it becoming overbearing in relation to 39 Old Union Way. T1 Lime Spec: S1 Reduce crown height by approx 2m, Pruning cuts exceed 75mm Works equating to 20% of the tree's leaf Spec: S19 Please add the following at the end of all the aprroved works: All pruning cuts must be made at bra Reason: R2 To ensure future compatibility with site, surroundings and usage T2 Lime Spec: S8 Prune back to suitable secondary branches to ensure 2.5m clearance from building. Spec: S19 Please add the following at the end of all the aprroved works: All pruning cuts must be made at bra Reason: R2 To ensure future compatibility with site, surroundings and usage

T16 - Poplar - fell. The tree leans towards the property and is too large for its position. The tree dominates the back garden. The crown has become very large causing excessive shading and the tree has lost four branches recently in the windy weather. Our client has young children and they are naturally concerned about the tree as a potential hazard. The roots are also beginning to reach towards the property, causing cracking to the patio. In addition, the tree produces hugh amounts of pollen seeds and white fluff (pukh). During this period the garden is ankle deep in the fluff which makes the garden unusable to our client and her family. Basic use of the outside space - play by their children and even hanging out the families washing is impossible. Our client is also requesting a specialist Arb report to assess whether two cracked windows to the property could have been caused by the tree. This will follow shortly. T16 Poplar Spec: S15 Fell tree to ground level. Reason: R1 Sound arboricultural management Reason: R2 To ensure future compatibility with site, surroundings and usage Reason: R5 Limited amenity value Reason: R7 Close to building, services, road or public highway (delete as appropriate)

T5 - Yew Tree - Crown lift to 3 metres. To allow better light to footpath and street from street lamp. (G2)T10 - London Plane - Crown reduce by 25% to reduce the height and radial spread of the tree by around 2 metres. Lower growth to be removed to raise the crown to 4 metres. This tree has suffered storm damage and the leading stem has split out. Crown reduction will rebalance the crown and prevent further damage. This tree is also close to property and windows of the flats in 2 Michaelis Road. Residents report that this tree has significant effect on light in their rooms. (G2)T11 - Norway Maple - Crown lift to 5 metres. (G2)T12 - Norway Maple - Remove this tree. (G2)T13 - London Plane - Crown lift to 5 metres. (G2)T14 & T15 - Willow - Repollard back to previous pollard points. These works on Trees 11-15 are mainly to alleviate the very considerable shade problems caused by this line of trees. Residents of the adjacent flats 3-9 all suffer will reduced daylight into their properties and gardens as these trees are all large and relatively close. T12 is a poorly formed specimen without space to develop a balanced crown. As an individual it has no particuar merit in terms of amenity value. Removal of this tree will have a positiveeffect on light levels to several of the nearest properties. Also removal of T12 will have a positive benefit on the two adjacent trees which will not become cramped for space and will also look better.

T1 - Copper Beech - Reduce branches by approximately 2 metres focusing mainly on lateral branches rather than the top. Lift canopy to provide statutory clearance over the road and clear from service cables. T2 - Tulip Tree - Reduce by approximately 3 metres to restore balance within the crown due to previous limb failure leaving the tree unbalanced. T3 - Horse Chestnut - Reduce by approximately 3 to 4 metres, leaving a natural flowing crown outline and remove major deadwood. T4 - To fell and remove 1 x Yew tree and install eco plugs to prevent re-growth.

Ash (T2 of TPO 09/2019) - Reduce back crown over single storey block D4 by a maximum of 4m at its widest point (work mainly relates to over extended limbs over roof). Reduce back low branches over the roof to create 3m clearance. Cutback branches from front of the adjacent building (D6) to create 2-3m clearance. To help balance the crown, reduce remaining crown by approx. 2m. To avoid altering the balance of the tree as a whole, the crown of the tree should be reduced in proportion to its original shape. All pruning cuts must be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain or enhance crown form.
