The Silver Birch tree in our garden has grown considerably during the last 10 years. It is now very large causing a great deal of shade to our garden. The tree is very close to the boundary with Sonning Common primary school and that with our neighbours at 8 Red House Drive. As can be seen from the enclosed photographs, the birch tree now towers over the school buildings. During strong winds, which are becoming more frequent, a number of small branches are blown from the tree, our concern is that larger branches may cause damage to school buildings or to our own house. We would like to employ a qualified person to reduce the tree's top growth back to where it was when the TPO was put on and to trim the lower branches. (approximately 9m to be taken off of the height and rounding off the sides to create a rounded shape). We will contact Mr Hirst the headmaster of SC primary school to discuss a suitable date for the work to be done.

T1 - Lime tree lateral growth as pictured; As discussed with the applicant, he is keen to encourage ore light into the property and help reduce leaf mess in the autumn, but more importantly to reduce the chances of the limbs touching the house or snapping off and falling into child's play ground. My suggestion to meet their requirements and to also maintain the trees health, shape and balance. Prune back the longest lateral growth by 2.5m max. Any other branches within this measurement will be pruned back to a growth point, leaving a broad natural finish to the side of the tree. Prune off/remove dead wood leaving the tree safe and tidy. All tree work will be carried out to the highest standard. All limbs will be pruned back to a growth point where possible whilst aiming to leave a natural finish.

T1: Birch: Twin stemmed Birch with a crown break a couple of feet above ground level. This tree has had cobra bracing installed and has previously had a crown reduction undertaken due to the applicants concerns over its safety with its close proximity to their own and neighbouring properties and the high volume of pedestrians who walk past the house particularly during the school pick up and drop off timings. The applicant wishes to reduce the height of the tree by 4 metres, to a point just above the previous pruning points and the lateral branches by up to 1 metre. T2, T3 and T4: Birch: Applicant wishes to carry out a 2m crown reduction of all 3 trees. These trees were planted by the applicant on the basis that they would be maintained as small trees owing to the size of space in this area of the garden and the proximity of buildings.

There are two trees in the front garden Permission is requested to fell both trees. Tree 1 = Weeping Birch Tree Tree 2 = Maple Tree Weeping Birch (Tree 1) This has become too large for the site, the roots are lifting the paving around it, making it a trip hazard. Roots have also entered the nearby drains, causing problems. Permission is sought to fell the tree, to make safe access to the property and to make space on the driveway for off street parking. (There is a nearby primary school, and parking can be a challenge.) Maple (Tree 2) This tree has also become too big for its location, which is very close to the boundary of No. 5 and No. 7 Vicarage Rd, causing lifting of the paving around it. It is also very close to both houses. Permission is sought to fell this tree.
