Planning application

1 St Johns House, St Johns Green, Wallingford, Oxon, OX10 9AB

Decided South Oxfordshire P14/S4396/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

3 x Yew Trees 1 x Lime Tree 1. Reducing and shaping Yew "thicket" (a group of 3 Yew Trees). 2. Reducing crown and shaping Lime Tree. Clearing out crown and removing side growth from trunk. Reasons for application: 1. Yew Trees are part of formal garden. The trees are too high to keep trimmed. They are shading the garden of St John's Cottage and have grown over the telephone wires of 3 St John's Green. Request is to reduce height by half. 2. The Lime tree requires regular control to prevent its branches growing over the roof of 3 St John's Green (listed building). (last trimmed in 2011). Request is to reduce its height and width by 25% to preserve its shape. (up to 3m crown reduction). Remarks:

T1: Birch: Twin stemmed Birch with a crown break a couple of feet above ground level. This tree has had cobra bracing installed and has previously had a crown reduction undertaken due to the applicants concerns over its safety with its close proximity to their own and neighbouring properties and the high volume of pedestrians who walk past the house particularly during the school pick up and drop off timings. The applicant wishes to reduce the height of the tree by 4 metres, to a point just above the previous pruning points and the lateral branches by up to 1 metre. T2, T3 and T4: Birch: Applicant wishes to carry out a 2m crown reduction of all 3 trees. These trees were planted by the applicant on the basis that they would be maintained as small trees owing to the size of space in this area of the garden and the proximity of buildings.

There are two trees in the front garden Permission is requested to fell both trees. Tree 1 = Weeping Birch Tree Tree 2 = Maple Tree Weeping Birch (Tree 1) This has become too large for the site, the roots are lifting the paving around it, making it a trip hazard. Roots have also entered the nearby drains, causing problems. Permission is sought to fell the tree, to make safe access to the property and to make space on the driveway for off street parking. (There is a nearby primary school, and parking can be a challenge.) Maple (Tree 2) This tree has also become too big for its location, which is very close to the boundary of No. 5 and No. 7 Vicarage Rd, causing lifting of the paving around it. It is also very close to both houses. Permission is sought to fell this tree.
