10 x Fruit trees There are 10 fruit trees that we propose to prune. The gentle pruning to which I referred would equate to no more than 1 metre reduction in the canopy and the removal of any dead wood. The fruit trees in the orchard are managed purely for the fruit for our own use. There has never been any commercial gain nor will there be in the future. Remarks:

The Manor House, Little Wittenham, Abingdon, Oxon, OX14 4RA
3 x Horse Chestnuts T1 - structurally this tree is dysfunctional and is ultimately hazardous in its current status, based on the low trifurcation aggravated by advanced hollowing and lack of residual wood in this area. From a professional indemnity point of view, I would advise removal and replanting. However, if the client is prepared to understand the risk, we could carry out an overall canopy reduction of 4.0m, specifically removing as much weight as possible from western stem closest to building and also the eastern. This is normally quite stressful for a tree as energy reserves are required to regenerate successfully. Previous retrenchment pruning works carried out 2 years ago were an investment as produced the beginnings of a smaller inner canopy. This will help a canopy reduction should you chose to go this route. T3 - tree shows progressive bacterium - link below for more information (http://www.forestry.gov.uk/horsechestnutbleedingcanker). Specifically the tree has areas of bark delamination particularly on the north. Other areas are affected but with some encouraging wound wood forming. The tree shows consistent "spiraling" lesions of necrotic bark. The bacterium issues seem to have stabilised. However, secondary issues may become more serious with time (evidence of Flammulina velutipes fructification present to northwest at 6.0m). Thankfully this is saprophytic so the implications at the time of inspection ar enot of fast decay pathogen decay cycle. The tree would benefit from 2-2.5m overall canopy reduction with selected overdeveloped laterals being reduced by 2.5-3.0 metres. T4 - there appears to be a significant cavity to the east at 4.0m. This should be investigated and residual wood information calculated. Further shear cracks on laterals to north, east and south west are present. These form important ecological habitat areas, particularly for bats. These cracks are actually quite old and show wound wood formation. Retain but stabilise prune to reduce end weight by 1.0-2.0 metres. T2 - climbing inspection required only. Remarks:
