We are acting on behalf of the property owner in relation to two trees located within the front garden of the above address, and we hereby submit a request for consent to undertake tree removal works. Following a detailed visual tree assessment, one of the trees (Tree 1 – Coast Redwood) has been identified as having a substantial basal decay cavity (rot pocket) at the base of the main stem. This defect indicates advanced fungal decay, significantly reducing the structural integrity and load-bearing capacity of the tree. As a result, the tree presents an elevated risk of stem failure, particularly under dynamic loading conditions such as high winds. Given the tree’s location adjacent to the public highway and property frontage, its failure would present a foreseeable risk to pedestrians, vehicles, and nearby structures. In our professional opinion, the risk level is no longer acceptable, and remedial pruning would not sufficiently mitigate the structural concerns. Therefore, removal is recommended as the most appropriate course of action. The second tree (Tree 2 – Oak Tree), positioned in close proximity, is of limited physiological quality and exhibits constrained growth due to spatial competition. Its retention would not be sustainable in the long term, and removal is proposed in conjunction with Tree 1 to allow for appropriate future replanting and site management. All works will be carried out in accordance with BS3998:2010 (Tree Work – Recommendations). Prior to commencement, checks will be undertaken to ensure compliance with wildlife legislation, including inspection for nesting birds and protected species. We kindly request confirmation as to whether the trees are subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) and/or located within a Conservation Area, and we seek formal consent to proceed with the proposed works. Please find attached photographs of the trees and the identified defects in support of this application.
