Front garden mature Willow (salix alba) with ground-level co-dominant stem. The willow presents with a heavy lean towards a footpath that gives access to and from the residence. The customer is concerned with lean but would like to to retain the tree in-situ as it adds considerable value to the property and local amenity. The customer is against removal would prefer the tree not to pollarded as it would adversely alter the trees character and lose the privacy it provides from neighbouring properties. To help retain the tree in its position a considerable crown reduction is suggested by a) Significantly shortening the leaning primary stem to its marked point on photograph 4. It is hoped that reducing most significant area of loading it will alleviate pressure on the ground level co-dominant union and extend the lifetime of the tree. Routine maintenance of epicormic growth will then be required to manage the future regrowth from this pruning point. b) Pruning, shaping and thinning of the retained upper canopy is suggested to help form a more centralised canopy above union and retain customers wishes for privacy. The smaller footprint of the tree would also be beneficial if the union was to fail in the future as it would be away from footpaths. c) The leaders from the other co-dominant stem currently interfere with other trees and extend over the steps and gate to be reduced back to tie in with the new canopies shape from works of point a) and b). d) The tree currently requires routine maintenance of dead-wooding throughout the crown(s).

T1 Acer Pseudoplatanus, insufficient rooting area with a poor quality soil substrate contributing to a reduced overall lifespan coupled with a decreased ability to withstand biotic and abiotic factors. T1 Shows an unfavourable safety of 1.29, accepted calculated safety factor is 1.5. To increase the Safety factor to the 1.5 will require a reduction of a minimum of 2m (8% reduction in height), however with the previously passed cyclical lateral reduction to ensure 1.5m of clearance from the building there is the high likelihood that the combined reduced canopy area will severly compromise the trees health. T2 Acer Pseudoplatanus, insufficient rooting area with a poor quality soil substrate contributing to a reduced overall lifespan coupled with a decreased ability to withstand biotic and abiotic factors. T2 Shows an unfavourable safety of 0.9, accepted calculated safety factor is 1.5. The level of height reduction required to increase the safety factor to 1.5 would require a 4m height reduction, resulting in a significant loss of photosynthetic area and would compromise the tree's health severely. T002 has a non-tolerable risk level when utilising The VALID methodology of Tree risk/benefit and a Tolerable by Agreement risk level if using QTRA. As we cannot impart an "agreement" with passing vehicles or pedestrians this risk level must be downgraded to "risk will not ordinarily be tolerable".

Removal of 4 Sycamore trees T4-T7 along the southern slope, so far one tree is showing signs of decline caused Cryptostroma corticale and given the proximity to each other and the limited soil volume, infection and death of all the maple species along this line is highly probable. Given the brittle nature of timber in trees that have died from this and the negative effects on the health of workers exposed to the spores of this disease, it is recommended that they be removed during the wetter winter months.

T001 Fell, is encroaching upon Royal Standard House and has been subject to canopy reductions in previous applications. Arguably, this is an unsuitable tree for its location, and repeated canopy reductions in lateral span are not conducive to long-term tree health or cost-effective management. Replant after Removal with a Betula pendula Obelisk standard after removal to lessen the visual impact and help offset the canopy loss. This is a smaller species of tree with a narrow canopy form so should be less inlcined to encorach upon the Listed Building. T002 Fell, angle of lean had increased by 5 degrees at time of last visit, from the initial visit in April 2024, and was at 32.5 degrees from vertical in February 2025. Has a restricted rooting area and is approximately 24 m tall, as clarified in a site meeting with Monty Haw in February 2026. Replant with a Betula papyrifera standard to help lessen the visual effect of tree loss and add some species variety to the locality. Planting of a third tree, again Betula papyrifera, at a point to be agreed to the west to break up the skyline following the removal of trees agreed under a previous application.

Tree Code: Sgl/106736 Species: Beech (Fagus sylvatica) TPO: TPO269 (T10) Works Sectionally fell and remove the Beech tree to ground level. Remove all timber, branches and arising debris from site. Grind out or otherwise remove the stump where practicable, or leave at ground level as directed by the client. Reason for Works The tree is exhibiting significant structural defects and decay, including: Evidence of substantial basal decay associated with fungal activity (Pholiota spp.). Hollow sounding stem indicating internal decay. Two very large historic tear-out wounds, including one approximately 5 metres above ground level. Major limb loss and loss of large branches. Abnormal buttressing and trunk form. Stem decay below the crown break. These defects indicate a significant decline in structural integrity and an increased risk of partial or whole-tree failure. Summary 1 × Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Sectional dismantling and removal of the entire tree due to advanced structural defects and decay.

Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) Tree Code: Sgl/033128 Works: Reduce one limb extending over a third-party garden by approximately 25%. Final pruning cuts to be 150-300mm diameter as appropriate. Objective is to reduce the risk of branch failure impacting the neighbouring conservatory. Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) Tree Code: Sgl/033130 Works: Sectionally fell and remove the tree. Treat stump with approved herbicide plugs following felling. Remove all arising debris from site. Reason: Significant decline and dysfunction. Basal cavity, stem decay, dieback, included bark unions and extensive longitudinal wounding. Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) Tree Code: Sgl/033404 Works: Crown lift to 3.5m above ground level. Remove low branches overhanging headstones to improve clearance. Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) Tree Code: Sgl/033410 Works: Crown lift to 3.5m above ground level. Remove low branches overhanging headstones to improve clearance. Holly Group (Ilex aquifolium) Tree Code: Grp/925009 Works: Crown lift five trees to provide approximately 3.5m clearance over the highway. Remove low overhanging vegetation to maintain road clearance. Elder (Sambucus nigra) Tree Code: Sgl/925012 Works: Remove the limb closest to the building. Achieve and maintain a clear separation of 1-2 metres between the canopy and the building. Final pruning cuts to be 150-300mm diameter as appropriate. Summary of Works 1 x limb reduction to Scots Pine over neighbouring property. 1 x tree removal and stump treatment (Rowan). 2 x crown lifts to 3.5m on Scots Pines over headstones. 5 x Holly trees crown lifted to 3.5m for highway clearance. 1 x branch removal from Elder to provide building clearance. Total: 11 trees affected, including one tree removal.

T1 Atlas Cedar. Works required: Atlas Cedar tree shaping- 1.5m full crown reduction top and sides. Targeting the longer branches that come out of the crown. Create a 1.5m clearance from both properties. Reason: The tree has had some previous pruning works. Thetree has recovered well and all wounds healedalong with good stable recovery growth. There hasbeen a big tear out in the upper canopy 3 yearsago. This has healed well. No outward signs ofdistress and good uniformity with the crown andmain structure. Tree is protected under TPO 55 reference T4.
