Planning application

Ty Mawr Farm Bryngwyn Road Dingestow Monmouthshire NP25 4DZ

Decided Monmouthshire DM/2026/00869

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

The 180 acre landholding at Ty Mawr lies on the watershed between the Rivers Usk and Wye. We hope to add ponds and leaky dams to the land we manage, both to benefit biodiversity and to slow down flows into tributaries of those rivers: the Trothy and the Pontyrhydan Brook. The Ty Mawr fields are a mix of pasture and arable with very little ecological value. The pond proposals at Ty Mawr are designed to compliment those recently constructed on the adjacent Old Lands holding, which flow entirely into the Trothy, as well as establishing initial headwater hydrological control on part of the Pontyrhydan Brook. Ty Mawr is a Demonstration Farm for best practice regenerative farming, including Wildfarmed cereals and nutrient and livestock management with a strong focus on soil health. Ty Mawr holds knowledge exchange workshops for farmers, agronomists and other stakeholders and is therefore an excellent choice for demonstrating how Natural Flood Management can sit alongside arable management. There 7 small ponds, scrapes and leaky dams designed in conjunction with MCC. Why necessary for agriculture: To improve whole farm holistic management and enhance biodiversity and on going water management. Why designed for agriculture: To improve whole farm holistic management and enhance biodiversity and on going water management.
