26/00952/ENQT5D Awaiting decision
St Bartholomews Church Church Lane Sproxton
A mature beech in the north-west corner of the churchyard has lost a major leader, estimated at 6 tonnes, which is now hung up in the crown of the adjacent tree. The failure appears to be a direct result of Ganoderma decay acting on a poor, included-bark union, and giant polypore (Meripilus giganteus) is also present at the base. Given the extent of decay and the tree's position beside Saltby Road, the tree cannot be made safe by pruning and full removal is recommended. A crane-assisted removal is advised as the safest method, which will need a road closure and the use of the field opposite for lowering and stacking timber.
