  • NC/26/101162 Granted

Glebe Meadow and skate park, Bishopstoke, SO50 6AL

1no. Group of Conifers (G1) - Fell. The skate park area is to be renovated, and a current concern is that the trees act as a large screening area, making it a blind spot from most locations around it. One of the trees within the group has substantial decay in both stems, which poses a danger in a location with such high footfall. A number of snapped limbs have come out of a couple of the trees, as they have started to reach over maturity. There are also a number of included and weak unions within the group. If the tree with basal decay were to be removed, it will open up a very different wind pattern to the remaining trees, which may well lead to further failures within the group. It is for these reasons that the local council wish to remove the group of trees.

  • NC/26/101150 Granted

STEEPLE COURT MANOR, STEEPLE COURT, CHURCH LANE, BOTLEY, SOUTHAMPTON, SO30 2EQ

1no. Norway spruce (T1) - Remove. Tree is of significant size and has a considerable lean. Evidence of root heaving on the opposite side of the lean suggesting eventual failure. Roots have lifted up ground, and move up and down during high winds. Location of tree is close to house, a garage and old Victorian, would cause damage if it fell. Happy to replace this tree with something of higher amenity value. Contemplating between salix babylonica, digitalis purpurea or fagus sylvatica. 1no. Leylandii-Cupressus - Remove. On boundary line of properties behind, close proximity of neighbour's garage. Worry roots will cause subsidence to garage and wall next to the stem of tree. Causes sunlight blockage for all neighbours behind, meaning they can’t plant anything near it. Intend on removing due to size and weight of the leylandii and the amount of wind exposure it gets. Leylandiss are known for having weak unions, so significant risk of a branch failure. Want to replace with a beech that they plan on reducing it once it’s a mature tree to avoid more future subsidence. 1no Yew (T3) - Reduce overextended lateral branches on the north-east or west side of canopy by approx 2m to alleviate weight on the unions. Leaving no pruning wounds larger than 80mm. This will also give both the yew and mulberry tree next to it more light and better airflow. Want both trees to thrive in the future.

Works are proposed as part of an ongoing cyclical maintenance programme for this tree. 1no. Sweet Chestnut (T2) - Remove. Tree exhibits a large wound at base of stem, with approx 75% canopy dieback. Tree appears suppressed by a larger adjacent Oak, contributing to its decline. Due to the poor physiological condition and limited long-term viability, removal is recommended. 1no. Sweet Chestnut (T3) - Fell. Tree has been previously struck by lightning, resulting in a significant longitudinal wound extending from the base of stem to upper crown. This defect has compromised structural integrity of the tree. Replace with a suitable species is recommended. 1no.
