About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

T9 (Oak) • Crown clean removing dead / dangerous / dysfunctional branches including larger dead branches over highway • Crown lift reducing low pendulous branches on the south side of the crown as required to create up to 3m crown clearance to the front elevation of Misseltor. This work will also have the added benefit of reducing weight of branch beyond weak fork midway. • Reduce low lateral branches on west side of crown only by 1.5-2-5m – from 13.5m to approximately 11m back in line with surrounding canopy to reduce asymmetry of crown and weight of elongated branches and create reasonable clearance to overhead cables. Cuts will be made back to previous reduction points and graded around the canopy to leave a sympathetic and natural-looking canopy shape. Reason: Overall, T9 (Oak) has good vitality and structural condition for its age, although its proximity to adjacent buildings, the highway, multiple underground services and the reported neighbouring subsidence warrant ongoing management and monitoring. Minor works are proposed at this time to raise the canopy in order to create reasonable clearance to Misseltor and overhead utilities and to sensitively reduce the lower canopy overhanging the front driveway of Misseltor with a reduction of selected elongated branches to reduce the overbearing nature of the crown in relation to the dwelling. These are minor works and the general health and wider visual amenity of the tree will not be affected.

One of the limbs of the Oak tree is overhanging into our neighbours garden and is lower the other limbs on the crown of the tree. I would like to slightly reduce the overhanging limb and bring up to the same height as the other limbs on the crown.

Also reduce low branch (south) that overhangs the garage by 1.5 m targeting suitable growth points. Keeping pruning wounds small and maintaining a balanced crown. Tree dimensions after pruning : Height 15m Radial spread 7.5 m Reasons for work : To alleviate end weight and side loading on large primary branch and low branch that extends out from natural drip line reducing the risk of failure.
