x6 stems of Lawson Cypress - remove to ground level and plant a replacement hedge alongside the boundary with Wallingford Rowing Club. The trees are etiolated and ivy clad and are the remains of an old lawson cypress hedge along here. They are very close to the stables and garage which is due to be renovated shortly and thus their removal will give clearance for scaffolding and enable a new more robust, management hedge to be planted along this boundary. Two of the stems are already dead.

T1 and T2 Poplar - Re pollard back to previous points. T4 Lime - Prune back to previous pruning points. T5 Lime - Prune back by tip pruning south west by up to 2m to keep crown clear of adjacent building. T13 Sycamore - reduce in height to 6m to reduce failure risk. T17 Liquidamber - lift crown to a height of 2.5m by removing branch tips only to give clear access under canopy for mowing etc.

Fell to ground level and treat stump to prevent re-growth. Ageing pollarded tree situated very close to the dwelling. Property renovations and underpinning will cause significant root disturbance to this tree and given its juxtaposition to the dwelling, long term retention is not a viable option. T3 - Holly - Fell to ground level and treat stump to prevent re-growth. Self seeded tree and situated too close to the dwelling to enable long term retention.

G2 of the Order: Norway Maple - reduce to an ecological monolith because of excessive shading and lapsed management has now resulted in large weak limbs forming the main crown which are liable to failure. Plant a replacement adjacent. Honey Fungus prevalent around base of tree. Plant a replacement adjacent. Sycamore - Crown reduce back to previous pruning points. Crown clean to remove deadwood. Aerial inspection recommended.

T1 - Over mature Hazel - recoppice to restore vigour. T2 - Ageing Cherry - remove to ground level. T3 - Dying Silver Birch - remove to ground level. TG4 - two small beech stems - planted as part of a hedge/shrub bed around the house. Remove before they get too big and cause direct damage to the house. T5 - Over mature Hazel - recoppice to restore vigour. T6 - Over mature Hazel - recoppice to restore vigour. T7 - Yew - very close to house, oppressive and makes the adjacent rooms very dark. The tree requires repeated pruning to prevent it from damaging the face and gutters of the property. Roots have completely blocked adjacent drain (plastic pipes that were upgraded a few years ago) and soakaway which has now had to be re-routed to avoid the same thing happening again in the future. The tree is twin stemmed and only can only be viewed from limited glimpses from outside the property. The applicants will plant a replacement tree to mitigate for its removal - further away from the house. T8 - Robinia sucker. Remove to ground level (very small - on the cusp of the 75mm diameter when measured at 1.5m above ground level). Over mature shrubs around the garden - around the perimeter and within site - carry out a restoration prune to restore vigour and regenerate growth. Crown clean to remove deadwood from other trees and vegetation within the site.

The Ferry House, Ferry Lane, Goring, RG8 9DX

T1 Plane - Remove the lowest limb at 5.5m above ground level towards the house back to source. Remove the long lower limb at 6m above ground level overhanging the garage roof back to source. Evenly reduce the lateral spread by approximately 3m around the perimeter of the canopy. Pruning cuts should not exceed 100mm. Works equating to 10% of the tree's leaf area. All pruning cuts to be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain crown form. T2 and T3 Aspen - On both trees, remove the two lowest limbs back to source that directly overhang the boundary hedge, towpath and river bank (and hence moored boats). To address the potential hazard of unpredictable limb breakage. T5 - Willow. Remove the 7 lowest smallest limbs of approximately 100mm diameter back to source. Evenly reduce the spread of the long lateral branches by approximately 4m around the perimeter of the canopy where they are longer than 8m. All pruning cuts to be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain crown form. To address the potential hazard of unpredictable limb breakage TG1 x5 Willow - Reduce crown height of all five trees by upto 40% to effectively pollard them at approximately 10m height. All pruning cuts to be made at branch junctions, to maintain and enable a good crown form as they re-grow. Limbs have recently broken out of a number of these trees and this work therefore will address the potential hazard of unpredictable limb breakage.
