Granta Park’s temporary padel plan could occupy a laboratory site for 10 to 15 years

A padel centre proposed at Granta Park could occupy the site of a consented research building for between 10 and 15 years, according to its transport statement.

The application seeks temporary use of land in the eastern part of the Great Abington science park. The statement identifies it as the plot intended for Building B in the park's next phase of development.

Six covered courts and a coaching court are proposed, alongside reception, a café, changing facilities, parking and landscaping. The transport statement describes six doubles courts and a singles court. The council's application description calls the smaller court a coaching court.

The statement says the temporary arrangement would allow the approved research and development scheme to go ahead at the end of that period. The suggested 10-to-15-year span is the applicant's description of the intended use, not a condition imposed by the council.

The centre would be available to Granta Park staff and external Padel4All members. A 29-space car park is proposed, including two accessible spaces. Those two spaces are included in the total, not additional to it.

Granta Park has already announced its partnership with Padel4All. The planning documents add detail about where the facility would sit, how long the temporary use might last and how it would fit around the future research building.

The record was awaiting a decision when checked on 14 September 2026. View the Granta Park application on PlanIndex, reference 26/03410/FUL.

Methodology and limitations

Document-led local reporting using the public PlanIndex application record and the council register and submitted documents. No decision-speed comparisons, production database rows or private exports are used. Queries record public GET retrievals.

  • Application status can change after the check date.
  • Applicant statements describe proposals, not completed works or guaranteed opening dates.
  • No interviews or direct comments were obtained.
  • Coverage searches are limited by indexing and publisher access; absence of a result does not establish exclusivity.
  • The register calls the additional court a coaching court; the transport statement calls it a singles court. The report preserves that distinction.
