02/2/23 (T225) Fell Corsican pine. This is a mature specimen situated within a small residential garden and directly overhangs a frequently used patio and the dwelling. The tree is also leaning directly towards a neighbouring property that is in close proximity. The tree has recently shed a substantial live limb (see attached), indicating active structural limb failure rather than minor deadwood shedding. The size and condition of the failed branch suggest an inherent weakness within the canopy structure. There are also breakages within the canopy. The species is known to develop long, end-weighted lateral limbs, and the current form of the tree is top-heavy with significant sail area concentrated in the upper crown. This increases the likelihood of further failures, particularly under wind loading. Given the high-value target area beneath the canopy and the unpredictable nature of the failure observed, the risk is considered ongoing and significant. Due to the form and species characteristics, pruning or reduction would not provide a suitable mitigation and may exacerbate structural issues. Removal is therefore requested on the grounds that the risk cannot be reasonably managed while retaining the tree.

06/00467/TPO (T226) - Scots Pine - Remove primary limb on southern side of canopy extending toward 20 Saxon Court. Shorten back primary limb on northern side back to 2 downward orientated branches (approx. half of existing length). Prune secondary branches to provide a 1.5 metre locus of clearance from the house. General reduction of remaining branches on southern side of canopy to appropriate pruning points of no more than 1 metre. Reason: To provide clearance from house and to balance.

T1 - Lime Reduce back to previous pruning points/knuckles. This tree has been managed historically on a cyclical basis T2 - Lime Reduce back to previous pruning points/knuckles. This tree has been managed historically on a cyclical basis T3 - Lime Reduce back to previous pruning points/knuckles. This tree has been managed historically on a cyclical basis T4 - Lime Reduction of no more than 2m This tree has been missed as part of the pollarding cycle. The lime tree sits alongside three other limes T1,2 &3 (and a pear) that are managed as an established pollard line or group. Leaving one unmanaged tree disrupts the uniform appearance, balance, and visual symmetry of the feature. To establish visual continuity and structural uniformity within an existing group of historically managed trees. Bringing this final lime into harmony with the adjacent three pollarded limes will enhance the overall amenity and cohesive appearance of the garden boundary/feature. Initiating a managed pollard regime at this stage in the tree's development ensures future containment, preventing the tree from outgrowing its spatial constraints and reducing the likelihood of heavy, unmanaged interventions later in its maturity. This work can then take place gradually over the next 2-3 years T5 - Pear Reduce back to previous pruning points/knuckles. This tree has been managed historically on a cyclical basis

T5201 - Oak - Reduce/pollard the crown to approx 6m, retaining the lower stem as standing deadwood habitat as appropriate - Decay at base on SE side. Sounding hammer indicated significant decay. Ganoderma bracket present, tree previously pollarded T5204 - Silver Birch - Fell tree - Tree leaning over residential garden T5205 - Oak - Reduce/pollard crown to approx 8m to reduce end-weight and loading towards the adjacent residential gardens - Cavity at 6m on west side, canopy leaning over gardens T5206 - Oak - Reduce/pollard crown to approx 8m - Crown extends over adjacent residential gardens following the failure/removal of an adjacent tree Remove several Holly trees overhanging neighbouring gardens down as close to ground level as practicably possible. H1/H2/H3 The holly trees require removal to facilitate safe and efficient implementation of the approved oak tree works and future boundary maintenance. Owing to their boundary location, retention would create ongoing management and access constraints for adjoining landowners. Their contribution to the character and appearance of the conservation area is limited, and their removal is not considered detrimental to local amenity.
