Proposal

I am writing on behalf of SSE Networks to inform you of our intention to temporarily remove sections of countryside hedgerow. It is proposed to create temporary 5m wide gaps in three hedgerows to facilitate the installation of a new 132kV underground electricity cable. The proposed new cable is required to replace an existing cable that is at the end of its operational life and requires urgent replacement. These works would be completed under Permitted Development rights. The affected hedgerows are all located in land to the west of Mill Lane, Cosham, PO6 3LH. The enclosed plan shows the location of the proposed gaps (shown as red boxes). The Ordnance Survey grid references of the proposed gaps are: SU 6531 0673, SU 6542 0691 and SU 6543 0692. On completion of the hedgerow crossings, the gaps would be reinstated, either using the original shrubs (coppiced and replanted), or with new whips (using stock of local provenance and species consistent with those found within the affected hedgerow).
