Proposal
1) The yew is around 40' high and located on the southern boundary of 48B High Street Kintbury adjacent to northern boundary of 3 Wallingtons Road. The Kintbury Conservation Area runs along this boundary. It increasingly blocks light from the cottage below (1 Wallingtons Road) and they have politely requested for it to be reduced in height and width. We have received advice about extent of crown reduction from a arborist/tree surgeon (Higgins Land and Trees of Newbury). The tree is is approx 15m high and 9m across, It consists of many small branches of between 5-8cms diameter radiating out from the trunk. It had been pruned before we bought the property (in 2012) and has not been touched since. We would propose to reduce crown by 1.5m-2m from each side of the crown and 2.5-3m from the uppermost part including the central trunk thus preserving an aesthetically pleasing finish similar to existing but more compact. The finished overall height will be approx 12m.

The silver birch is approx 15m tall. The top 50% is dead including the main trunk. The tree has been crowded out and starved of water and light for some years. The single remaining main live branch grows out north-west at an angle. This is now growing over the end of the driveway so presents a future risk to people/cars below. We have consulted an arborist/surgeon (James at Higgins Tree and Land Management). He previously did a fantastic job on a nearby yew on same boundary. He recommends removal of birch. Reduction work has already been applied for adjacent Yew which in on next door property, 48B High Street. (T1 on plan: application no: 26/02074/TPC refers.) This tree is currently causing overall light deprivation to all nearby trees as well as cottage. The adjacent trees (copper beech, beech, hornbeam) were planted as a mixed hedge by looks of it when houses built and were not tended when young so have now all outgrown their space.

Yew: Reduce crown by 25%. The 20m tree is situated within a privet/yew hedgerow which forms the boundary of the CA. The Yew tree has become lop-sided and straggly and outgrown its site in height and breadth. Propose to reduce this tree in overall size to match another yew on same boundary which is 15m in height.

Yew - Reduce the size by 50%. The current height is approx 10 metres above the road and I estimate that the proposed reduction would bring the height down to approx 6 metres above the road. As per submitted photos
