Awaiting decision West Berkshire 26/01522/TPW

Works: Trees

Still open. Anyone can comment while the consultation period runs, and comments go to the council rather than to us.

Proposal

The Ash tree in question is on the boarder of 19 Greenacre Place and 8 The Night Owls, RG19 8SB. Work (crown lift and reduction) was carried out to this tree approximately 5 years ago. Crown reduction (approximately 3 meters in line with previous cuts) and potentially the removal of a limb (it's this limb that is getting too close to the house). I propose a 2-3m reduction of the canopy of the tree and the removal of 1 significant limb as shown in the photos provided. Maximum diameter of cuts for the overall crown reduction would be 8cm. Maximum diameter of cut for the limb removal would be 40cm. The current height of the tree from ground level is 16-17m, the overall height of the tree after the reduction would be 13-14m. All pruning cuts to be carried out in accordance with BS3998.

What happens while it is decided

The process from here

This application is with West Berkshire for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.

The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.

About this record

Reading the register

This page mirrors an entry on the statutory planning register that West Berkshire is required to keep. The published feed for this record does not state which type of application it is, which is common for older entries and for some council systems; the register entry on the council portal will say, alongside the case officer and any consultation dates.

Every planning application follows the same broad path: submission, validation, publicity, then a decision by officers or committee. Our guide to planning application types explains the common types and what each can approve.

T1 - Oak: The oak tree exhibits significant decay within the main stem and has previously suffered a major limb failure, resulting in substantial canopy loss. The tree is now leaning towards the adjacent property. Reduce to a monolith at approximately 2 metres (5/6 feet) in height for habitat purposes. T2, T3, T4 and T5 - Oaks (Group of 4): These mature oak trees overhang the neighbouring property (Beeridge and Co Builders Ltd). Works are required to mitigate risk from falling branches and manage overall size. Crown reduction by 2/3 metres. Final finished height: approximately 16/17 metres. Final crown spread: approximately 9/11 metres T6 - Ash (multi-stem): This ash tree is affected by ash dieback and is in decline. There is evidence of previous limb failure, significant deadwood, and a large suspended branch. Heavy pollard reduction by approximately 4/5 metres. Final finished height: approximately 12/13 metres. Final crown spread: approximately 6/8 metres
