Awaiting decision Wandsworth Works to a T.P.O. Tree

Proposal

T1: Large Cherry (Prunus spp.) x 2 - Carry out a crown reduction of the two large Cherry trees, reducing the overall canopy by approximately 1.5 metres back to suitable secondary growth points throughout each crown. Works shall also include a light selective crown thin, removing a limited proportion of secondary branchwork to improve light penetration and air circulation whilst retaining the natural form, structure and healthy furnishing growth of each tree. Thinning shall be sympathetic in nature and shall not alter the overall shape or amenity value of the trees. T2: Cherry (Prunus sp.) - Carry out a crown reduction of the Cherry tree, reducing the overall canopy by approximately 1.0 metre back to suitable secondary growth points. Works shall also include a light selective crown thin to improve crown density and air movement whilst maintaining the tree's natural form, balance and healthy furnishing growth. No excessive internal thinning shall be undertaken. T3: Holly (Ilex aquifolium) - Carry out a crown reduction of the Holly, reducing the overall height by approximately 2.0 metres, before reshaping the canopy to create a balanced, symmetrical and well-proportioned specimen. Works shall be undertaken selectively to suitable growth points, maintaining healthy foliage cover and the natural character of the tree. T4: Yew (Taxus baccata) - Carry out a crown reduction of the Yew, reducing the overall height by approximately 2.5 metres, followed by a full reshape to create a neat, balanced and uniform specimen. Works shall be undertaken selectively, pruning back to suitable growth points whilst retaining healthy furnishing growth and the natural form of the tree. All works shall be carried out in accordance with BS39982010 - Tree Work Recommendations. All timber, brash and associated arisings shall be removed from site and disposed of responsibly, leaving the site clean, tidy and free from debris upon completion. Reason for works: General tree maintenance

What happens while it is decided

The process from here

This application is with Wandsworth for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.

The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Apple Malus sp, classified by Landmark Trees as mature low quality (C) category 2 (landscape) with moderate vitality (marked with a grey dot as T in the sketch attached located in the rear garden of 23 Burstock road. I seek approval to fell the tree to ground level and replace it with a healthier tree in a better position. The proposal is based on the tree???s poor physiological quality, structural defects, and restrictive positioning. 1. Poor Physiological and Structural Quality: As shown in the attached photographs the main stem and primary upper canopy branches display a high density of significant canker-like burls, galls, and heavily distorted bark tissue. This systemic condition severely limits the long-term growth and aesthetic value. 2. Proximity to Built Structures: As shown in the photos attached the tree is situated in very close proximity to an adjacent brick building. 3. Low Public Amenity Value: Due to its species (domestic fruit tree), modest height (approx. 5m), and rear-garden location, the tree provides negligible public amenity value to the wider conservation area. Its removal will have no detrimental impact on the local landscape To maintain canopy cover within the conservation area I am proposing to plant a more appropriately sited replacement tree in the Position proposed on the attached sketch (PT).
