Awaiting decision Wandsworth 2026/0041 Works to a T.P.O. Tree

Works: Trees

Still open. Anyone can comment while the consultation period runs, and comments go to the council rather than to us.

Proposal

T1 - Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), 15m high and 16m wide, the tree is located and encroaching two properties. We would like to do an holistic crown reduction of 3m (back to previous pruning points) leaving 12m high and 13m wide. T2 - Purple leaved plum (Prunus cerasifera), 8m high and 7m wide, the tree has a low crown overhanging the footpath and Road and is also growing against street furniture, we would like to do an holistic crown reduction of 2m leaving 6m high and 5m wide also ensuring 2.5m clearance over the footpath and 1m clearance from street furniture. T3 - Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) 18m high and 12m wide, the tree has a low crown overhanging the footpath and Road and is also growing close to the building, we would like to crown lift 5m over the road and 2.5m over footpath and prune back to ensure 2m clearance from the building. T4 - Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) 18m high and 12m wide, the tree has a low crown over the road and footpath and is also growing close to the building, we would like to crown lift 5m over the road and 2.5m over the footpath and prune back to ensure 2m clearance from the building. T5 - Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) 15m high and 14m wide, the tree is located next to the entrance for the building and starting to become a nuisance for high sided vehicles, also has a low crown overhanging the road and footpath, we would like to re-pollard at 8m from ground level (back to previous pruning points) leaving 8m high and 7m wide, this will ensure we have clearance over the footpath, entrance and road while keeping the tree balanced. T6 - Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) 7m high and 5m wide, this is a self seeded tree and the stem is growing against the neighbouring property, we would like to remove the tree to mitigate and future problems. T7 - Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) 6m high and 5m wide, the tree is growing next to the neighbouring property, we would like an holistic reduction of 2m leaving 4m high and 3m wide also mitigating any future problems.

The proposed 2m reductions were in line with previous management cycles and aimed at maintaining the trees at a sustainable size through re-pruning back to established reduction points. These works are not considered excessive and are considered good arboricultural practice for long-term health and safety. We are surprised to see our previous application (APPLICATION NUMBER: 2025/1678) refused on the basis of ???no arboricultural reason,??? particularly as this level of work has been routinely approved in the past. There is no suggestion that the trees were previously mismanaged, nor that this re-entry would cause harm. Furthermore, it is unusual that no alternative specification was suggested, which would typically allow for a constructive adjustment rather than outright refusal. In light of the above, we would appreciate confirmation as to whether the Council would be willing to approve the specifications: T15 English Oak: Current Height: Approx. 18 metres Current Lateral Spread: Approx. 9 metres Proposed Works: Carry out a crown reduction by up to 1.5???2 metres in height and lateral spread to previous reduction points. Final height after works: approx. 16???16.5 metres Final lateral spread: approx. 7???7.5 metres All cuts to be made to suitable secondary growth points in line with BS 3998 (2010). Tree to be left with a natural, balanced shape. Reason for Works: Routine cyclical maintenance to manage crown size, maintain previous reduction framework, improve light penetration, and reduce mechanical stress on extended limbs. T16 Red Oak: Current Height: Approx. 17 metres Current Lateral Spread: Approx. 8 metres Proposed Works: Carry out a crown reduction by up to 1.5???2 metres in height and lateral spread, returning to previous pruning points. Final height after works: approx. 15???15.5 metres Final lateral spread: approx. 6???6.5 metres All cuts to be made to appropriate secondary branches, preserving the natural form. Reason for Works: General maintenance and re-entry pruning to contain crown size, reduce risk of limb failure, and maintain proportion and health consistent with previous approved cycles. Please can an alternative specification be put forward if needed? We would also kindly request that this be expedited if possible, as we are keen to avoid restarting a fresh application and facing a further 8 week delay for a decision we feel is unfair. We remain open to cooperating with the delegated Tree Officer to find a mutually acceptable outcome and would welcome any feedback or site discussion if appropriate.
