T2: Sycamore: Fell to ground level. A Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) located just outside my boundary on the neighbour's land is proposed for removal with the neighbour's agreement. Although the tree is not on my property, it is causing significant and ongoing issues that directly affect my home, including: Substantial loss of natural light Heavy seasonal leaf fall leading to repeated maintenance and blocked gutters General nuisance and encroachment due to its size and position The neighbour has acknowledged these impacts and agrees that the tree is unsuitable for its current location. Its removal is therefore a practical management decision to resolve persistent issues affecting my property, rather than a proposal made for reasons of altering the wider landscape or greenbelt character. Replacement planting can be provided where required, using appropriate species that will maintain local amenity without causing future conflicts.

Specification of Works T1 & T2 2x Holm Oaks (Lower Trees) ? Reduce the height of each tree by approximately 2.0m, retaining a final height of approximately 6.0m. ? Reduce the radial crown spread by approximately 1.50m, retaining a final spread of approximately 5.50m at all compass points. ? Works will retain the tree?s natural framework, preserving the aesthetic value of the trees within the local landscape. ? Pruning wounds will not exceed 40mm in diameter. T3 ? 1x Holm Oak (Upper Tree) ? Reduce the height of the tree by approximately 1.5m, retaining a final height of approximately 6.0m. ? Reduce the radial crown spread by approximately 1.5m, retaining a final spread of approximately 5.0m at all compass points. ? All pruning cuts will be made at suitable growth points in accordance with BS3998:2010. ? Individual wounds will not exceed 40mm in diameter. Justification for Proposed Works The proposed pruning works are intended to maintain the trees in a safe and healthy condition. The Holm Oaks are beginning to exert dominance over the terrace area, resulting in reduced light levels to the garden spaces. Due to the characteristics of Hom Oak, producing vigorous growth, proactive cyclical maintenance will help retain the trees as valuable amenity features whilst preventing the need for more severe intervention in the future. The works are considered proportionate and in line with good arboricultural practice, seeking only to reduce excessive extension growth and restore suitable proportions to the crown. The trees will retain their natural form and main structural framework, with crown density and vitality maintained. All pruning operations will follow the principles set out in BS3998:2010 Tree Work ? Recommendations, ensuring that: ? The overall habit/form of the trees is preserved. ? A high proportion of the foliage-bearing structure is retained. ? Individual pruning wounds will not exceed 40mm in diameter. ? Cuts will be made to suitable growth points to encourage

Beech (T1) within the G6 fell because the tree shows multiple structural and physiological defects that threaten its safe presence in the landscape. A significant longitudinal cavity runs through the lower stem, indicating advanced internal decay. The lack of key skeletal components further weakens the tree's structural integrity. Deterioration of bark and sapwood is visible, with exposed areas failing to effectively compartmentalise or produce adaptive growth, suggesting a reduced capacity for recovery. These defects collectively pose a predictable risk of structural failure, endangering nearby property and public safety. Due to the extent of decay and compromised structure, remedial pruning is not feasible. Felling is recommended as a necessary risk mitigation measure. Pine (T6) shows a decline in vitality across the entire crown, evidenced by sparse foliage, reduced shoot growth, and poor needle retention. When directly compared with a neighbouring pine of the same species and similar age, T6 exhibits noticeably lower crown density and overall vigour, indicating a progressive decline. No signs of acute pathogen or pest activity were observed, suggesting the deterioration is likely due to age-related senescence or site-specific stress factors. Considering the extent of physiological decline and the tree?s diminished capacity for recovery, retention is not deemed viable. Felling is recommended to reduce future risk and preserve the visual and ecological character of the group.

Mature lime tree adjacent to shared driveway, overhanging neighbouring property line. After carrying out a basic ground inspection whilst carrying out other work at the property, we decided to conduct a climbing inspection to assess the condition of historical pollard points at approximately 8m from ground level due to poor visibility from the ground. Upon climbing the tree we inspected the main unions at each historic pollard point and as suspected from ground level, there were multiple areas of concern with included unions, pockets of dirt collecting within the unions and branches beginning to fail within the upper crown of the tree. The tree is situated close to a hilltop and can be exposed to strong winds. Due to the location of the tree there is a likelihood of serious damage or potential injury should any of the main unions fail in strong winds. I feel the tree is long overdue attention given the species and evidence of previous pruning. For the reasons outlined above I?m requesting a pollard at 8m (approx), to the previous pollard points, whilst retaining some of the lower secondary limbs, pollarded away from the stem, to give the tree some shape whilst it recovers from the pollard, and gives us anchor points for roped access for any future pruning.

Horse chestnut (T1) Proposed works: Crown lift of low branches to achieve a clearance of approximately 4m above ground level with cuts no larger than 50mm. Works are required to alleviate obstruction and encroachment onto the adjacent highway, driveway, garden, and property areas directly beneath the crown. Specification: All operations to be carried out in accordance with BS 3998:2010 (Tree Work ? Recommendations). Removal is limited to lower-order branches that impede access and damage the arrangement of first-order branches beneath the crown dripline. Works will maintain tree health and form, focusing on clearance rather than reduction. Supporting context: A similar consent was granted in 2015 due to the tree?s asymmetrical crown interfering with neighbouring vegetation. Current encroachment affects a well-established Japanese maple (SW) and Laurus hedge (E), both of which will benefit from reduced competition for light and space. Intervention will prevent further damage to the lower crown and improve coexistence with adjacent plantings. Reason for works: To ensure safe clearance above the highway and driveway, reduce interference with neighbouring vegetation, and maintain the long-term health and structural integrity of the tree.

T1 - Beech - Crown lift by approximately 2 metres removing up to 30 minor secondary branches to provide clearnance while retaining a natural and balanced form. T2 - Beech - Lateral reduction of the crown by 1-2 metres to leave an approximate final spread of 6 metres with all pruning cuts made back to suitable growth points. T3 - Holm Oak - Lateral crown reduction by up to 1 metre leaving an approximate final spread of 5 metres, maintaining natural shape and tree health. Justification for proposed works. T1 - Beech - The tree has developed low-hanging branches with excessive lateral weight increasing the risk of branch failure. A minor crown lift will help reduce loading stress while improving clearance and maintaining tree health and form. The proposed works are proportional and preventative. T2 - Beech - The crown is growing in close proximity to the building with lateral spread approaching the structure. Selective lateral reduction will prevent future conflict with the property, minimise risk of damage and maintain a safe management distance while retaining the tree's natural shape. T3 - Holm Oak - This tree is also spreading toward the building and requires a light lateral reduction to prevent obstruction and potential contact with the structure. The work is preventative and intended to avoid future damage, shading and maintenance issues. All works are minimal, sympathetic and designed to retain natural form while preventing future structural or safety-related issues. The works are considered appropriate tree management rather than aesthetic alteration.

T1: Spruce: Fell to ground level. The tree stands within approximately 3 metres of my property, growing from a raised rockery structure which does not provide a suitable long-term rooting environment for a tree of its current size and expected future growth. The spruce has now outgrown its constrained location, and its proximity to the property presents an increasing risk of structural pressure on the rockery and adjacent hard surfaces. A similar spruce in an adjoining garden failed during storm conditions last year, demonstrating that mature specimens of this species in this immediate area may be vulnerable due to restricted rooting depths and local exposure. Replacement planting can be provided where required, using appropriate species that will maintain local amenity without causing future conflicts. The removal of these trees is therefore based on safety considerations, site constraints, and practical arboricultural management, rather than any desire to alter the character of the wider greenbelt area. Replacement planting can be provided if required by the Local Planning Authority, and species can be selected to ensure long-term suitability and to maintain local amenity value.
