Please refer to information held on previous application, reference: AT/2020/0173/TPO. Work was undertaken on the beech tree as a result of this previous application being approved. During the work, which was undertaken by Southern Tree Services, Mark Reade advised us to apply for a 20-30% thinning of the tree due to excessive squirrel damage to the branches.

Please refer to Application Number: AT/2010/0112/TPO.Since receiving the report giving the consent for the above application, I have decided to re-apply for a 5 to 6m crown lift, together with permission to remove individual branches overhanging neighbouring and communal areas. If this was to be granted, it would improve the shade and light issues affecting both the property and those of its neighbours.

Please consider this application as a '5 Day Notice - With intent to fell' Numerous fruiting bodies of the decay fungus Meripilus giganteus are present around the base of the tree, along with immature fruiting bodies of a Ganoderma species of wood decay fungus, indicating the likely established (and advancing) decay within the main structural roots and stem of the tree. The crown of the tree is displaying sub-optimal vitality and density, compared with the same parameters in the summer of 2024. We believe with the root system and stem being compromised, along with the crown being in leaf that there is a immediate danger of whole tree failure in the current strong wind conditions. Due to the close proximity of the surrounding properties, there is a potential for structural damage and loss of life. Hi-Line would also prefer to proceed with these works 'as soon as possible' due to the positioning of the tree. There is VERY limited work space for dismantling with no access for a crane. As the weather worsens, rigging down the tree and extracting it will only add considerable damage to the surrounding gardens and further expense to the home owner. Replacement tree (species) to be discussed with the homeowner.
