About householder applications

How this application type works

Householder applications cover work to an existing house and its garden: extensions, loft and garage conversions, porches, outbuildings and similar alterations within the boundary of the home. They cannot be used to create a separate dwelling or change what the building is used for. Councils aim to decide them within eight weeks, and immediate neighbours are usually notified and given a chance to comment.

T1 Robinia - Fell to ground level. Reasons for works - The tree is located in very close proximity to a garage and greenhouse. This area of the garden has been disused for some years, but the property owner has plans to make the greenhouse a working part of the garden again. The tree has now become unsuitable for its location, as it provides significant shade to the greenhouse below. Due to its location, the options for pruning to provide adequate light below are limited. The property owner has indicated that they are already carrying out replanting in other parts of the garden and are happy to continue doing so to mitigate the loss of the tree. T2 Sycamore - Crown Lift by removing branch tips to provide 4.5 metres clearance above ground level and reduce the low, large limb over the flower bed extending towards the house by up to 2 metres to improve light to the flower bed below.

T1 Hornbeam - Reduce the height and spread of the tree by up to 1.5 metres, back to the previous pruning points. Reasons for the works: These works are planned as part of regular tree maintenance to ensure the trees are kept at appropriate distances from properties and to maintain their size.

T1 & T2 - Horse Chestnut T1 & T2 - Horse Chestnut - remove both trees and replace with 3 x Salix alba var. sericea, large standards. A landscape design scheme has been created that will enhance the amenity of the fields on both sides of the River Thame at this point. The new trees and hedgerow planting will be in clear view from the old roadway and bridge over the river (which is well used by walkers and others). We feel that the Horse Chestnuts are less apprpriate in this floodplain landscape than Willow. They are likely to suffer from the range of foliage diseases and possibly bleeding canker and will be less tolerant to standing in waterlogged ground over winter months than the Willow replacements. Furthermore the Horse Chestnut directly block the view from The Old Vicarage across the river. The new design places the new trees some metres further east and so opens the view form the property. As the new trees and other planting develop there will be a significant gain in terms of amenity and landscape value which will be in plain view from adjacent public right of way. Please refer to the site plan and schedule of works detailing all of the new planting which accompanies this notice. Remarks:

T1 - Hornbeam T2 - Robinia G3 - Outgrown Beech hedge T4 - Walnut T5 - Silver Birch T1 - Hornbeam - remove lower growth to raise crown to 2m. Reduce crown height and spread by around 1.5m. This work is to maintain better light levels to the borders beneath and around this tree which is becoming out of scale with the front garden and house. T2 - Robinia - remove and treat stump to inhibit growth. Unwanted low quality self set or root sucker from former tree. G3 - Outgrown Beech hedge - coppice all trees to below height of wall to stimulate regeneration from lower on stems in order to establish better quality Beech hedge. New Beech whips to be planted to increase density. T4 - Walnut - remove lower growth to raise crown to around 4.5m. This is to improve light to the new Beech hedge that will be planted inside the boundary wall and below this tree. T5 - Silver Birch - remove tree to create better space for larger adjacent Birch and ornamental Cherry. Remarks:
