Planning application

P26/S2578/TCA

The Thatched House High Street Little Milton Oxford OX44 7PU

Decided South Oxfordshire Works to trees in CA

Proposal

T1 Cherry - Fell to ground level. T2 Silver Birch - Reduce the height and radial spread of the tree by up to 2 metres, pruning back approximately to the previous reduction points where suitable. T3 Apple - Selectively reduce the height and radial spread of the tree by up to 1.5 metres through the removal of overextended growth, pruning back into the natural crown shape and form. Additionally, carry out a 10% crown thin of the central crown by removing dead, dying, weak, crossing and congested branches where appropriate. T5 Cherry - Selectively reduce overextended limbs extending beyond the natural crown line by up to 2 metres. Additionally, carry out a 10% crown thin of the central crown by removing dead, dying, weak, crossing and congested branches where appropriate. T6 Apple - Remove the compromised limb back to its point of origin or a suitable parent union. T8 Silver Birch - Reduce the height and radial spread of the tree by up to 2 metres. T9 Greengage - Reduce the overall height of the tree by a minimum of 2 metres. T10 Prunus - Fell to ground level. T12 Zelkova - Reduce the height and radial spread of the tree by up to 2 metres, pruning back approximately to the previous reduction points. Reasons for the Proposed Works: T1 – The tree is exhibiting crown decline and has bark delamination and decay at the main union. T2 & T8 – Historic pollarding has resulted in decay and weak pollard unions. Reduction works are proposed to reduce loading on these defects. T3 & T5 – To improve crown balance, reduce end-weight, and promote improved fruit production. T6 – The tree is in decline due to the presence of Inonotus hispidus. Works are proposed to reduce the risk of branch failure and retain the tree safely. T9 – To reduce the size of the tree, remove deadwood, and manage declining limbs. T10 – The tree is exhibiting symptoms consistent with Anthracnose infection and is in decline. T12 – To reduce the overall crown size and maintain a balanced, sustainable form appropriate to its setting.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
