Planning application

42 High Street, Thame, Oxon, OX9 2AA

Decided South Oxfordshire P17/S4775/TCA Works to trees in CA

Works: Trees

Decided. The decision notice on the council portal carries the outcome in full, including any conditions.

Proposal

T1 - Birch T2 - Apple T3 - Lilac T4 - Sorbus The proposal is to remove 4 trees, with trunk diameters over 75mm, from the private garden of a town house in Thame. The Birch (T1) is to be replaced with a 2.5/3m high Amelanchier Lamarch, as it currently overshadows the garden too much. The Apple tree (T2) is to also be replaced with a 2.5/3m high Amelanchier. The Lilac (T3) is to be replaced with a row of 3 x Pleachey Hornbeam to allow for more screening and acoustic buffering from the adjacent pub car park. The overall design proposal is to plant: 3 x Amelanchier, 6 x Pleached Hornbeam and 5 x Malus "evereste". These trees will almost instantly replace any height in vegetation that is lost, as well as retaining privacy on both boundaries of the garden, in a more compact, orderly fashion, in scale with the garden. T2 - Yew T3 - Sycamore T4 - Poplar T2 - Yew & T3 - Sycamore - Reduce the radial spread over garden by around 2 metres. The above works are in the interests of maintaining these trees with high amenity value at a scale that is in proportion with the properties and gardens on both sides of the boundary. T4 - Poplar - Fell to ground level. This is a vigorous pollarded tree of no particular merit. Both gardens on either side of it have vegetable plots which are compromised by the shade from this tree. It grows close to the boundary wall and will start to impact on the wall in coming years. It is an unsuitable species for this location. Remarks:

T1 - Copper Beech - Reduce branches by approximately 2 metres focusing mainly on lateral branches rather than the top. Lift canopy to provide statutory clearance over the road and clear from service cables. T2 - Tulip Tree - Reduce by approximately 3 metres to restore balance within the crown due to previous limb failure leaving the tree unbalanced. T3 - Horse Chestnut - Reduce by approximately 3 to 4 metres, leaving a natural flowing crown outline and remove major deadwood. Ash (T2 of TPO 09/2019) - Reduce back crown over single storey block D4 by a maximum of 4m at its widest point (work mainly relates to over extended limbs over roof). Reduce back low branches over the roof to create 3m clearance. Cutback branches from front of the adjacent building (D6) to create 2-3m clearance. To help balance the crown, reduce remaining crown by approx. 2m. To avoid altering the balance of the tree as a whole, the crown of the tree should be reduced in proportion to its original shape. All pruning cuts must be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain or enhance crown form.
