Proposal
T1 - Evergreen Redwood T2 - Yew We wish to remove a large evergreen redwood which is just 2.5m from our house and is causing concern with regard to our kitchen foundations. In addition it casts a long and deep shadow over our family outside seating area and our kitchen. Immediately behind the redwood is a mature Yew tree which impairs the canopy of the redwood making it partially misshapen. Together, the 2 canopies present a very dark and dull appearance, very close to the house. The Redwood appears healthy, however, we would like to replace it with several less sombre trees having brighter foliage and canopies that allow more light to penetrate onto the ground and into the windows of our kitchen. I propose one Liquidambar Styraciflua Worplesdon and beyond it a Tibetan Cherry and an Amelanchier lamarchkii (service berry). If there is room I would like to also plant a Liriodendron Tuliifera Aureomarginatum to give contrast and colour. These trees would, I feel, mix well with others already there including a box tree and a Betula utilis Jacquemontii. As part of a small scheme in the area of the redwood, we intend to plant a hedge line using a mix of beech & some hazel in front of a fence which leads to a garden shed and which extends for approx 40 metres. In addition we are proposing to plant several trees along the exterior of the fence which is within our boundary and is adjacent to Ferry Lane. These trees are intended to enhance the tree line, act as a deterrent to intruders and screen both the fence and some unsightly tall stumps in the neighbouring property, Ferry Lodge. I propose planting 3 Cercis Canadensis (Forest Pansy), 3 Ligustrum Lucidum Variegata, interspersed with 2 or 3 Turkish Hazel - Corylus Colurna. We will also plant some hedgerow behind the trees. In addition to the above, we want to reduce the canopy of several mature Yew trees, to allow more light and to encourage growth of the trees in front of them.We would also like to remove a Yew tree adj to the garden shed. Extra info: 240414 1. To remove a large Thuja from the side of the property next to our kitchen on Ferry Lane. This tree if left to grow further, will dominate our view, casting a strong shadow over the site where we are planting several young trees to replace the Southern Redwood and enhance the overall view and light with the shaped yews. 2. To remove a weak, thin yew which, again, inhibits the planting of replacement trees and appears both weak and very unsightly. Trimming, we fear, would probably not prove helpful, even in the long term and it is in a perfect position, in the centre of the bed, for a replacement young tree. 3. To remove a spindly spruce pine which is weak in habit and form and is masked by yews and will not benefit from trimming as it does not have any healthy low branches. We will be planting multi stemmed ilex on Ferry Lane right behind the current position of the tree which will gain from light and enhance the lane at that point. 2 x London Plane trees (1 in front garden and 1 in back garden). I am applying for permission to undertake careful pruning/remedial work on our 2 very old and precious London Plane trees to remove all deadwood/branches in both. In our front garden we need to reduce the canopy as it is almost touching the house. It also has a telephone wire passing through it which needs clearance. It has had heavy pollarding in the past which we would like to avoid. In our back garden the Plane has branches resting on our Yew trees adjacent to Ferry Lane (public road) and Limes so we need to lift and make safe. We wish to gently prune both trees and keep their shape. Remarks:

T1 - Lime tree T2 - Laurel bush/tree T1 - Lime tree that overhangs our garden fence over Ferry Lane. We are proposing to repollard this tree back to its previous pollard points. T2 - To a (large) Laurel bush/tree that is on the boundary between our garden and that of Tudor Cottage. We propose an overall reduction of the Laurel by 20% (crown height and lateral spread), approximately 2 metres off each stem. Remarks:

Laurel Removal of overgrown Laurel shrub, now a tree. This tree stands close to our conservatory, causing narrow access to the back of our house. It dominates a small garden. We have pruned it several times (with permission) but it grows back very quickly and just gets bigger. We will happily replace it with a more appropriate tree. Remarks:

H1 - Leyland Cypress hedge Leyland Cypress Hedge (H1) - fell because unwanted by owners and neighbours. Owners intend to immediately replant with more appropriate trees to enhance the architecture. Remarks:

T1 Plane - Remove the lowest limb at 5.5m above ground level towards the house back to source. Remove the long lower limb at 6m above ground level overhanging the garage roof back to source. Evenly reduce the lateral spread by approximately 3m around the perimeter of the canopy. Pruning cuts should not exceed 100mm. Works equating to 10% of the tree's leaf area. All pruning cuts to be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain crown form. T2 and T3 Aspen - On both trees, remove the two lowest limbs back to source that directly overhang the boundary hedge, towpath and river bank (and hence moored boats). To address the potential hazard of unpredictable limb breakage. T5 - Willow. Remove the 7 lowest smallest limbs of approximately 100mm diameter back to source. Evenly reduce the spread of the long lateral branches by approximately 4m around the perimeter of the canopy where they are longer than 8m. All pruning cuts to be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain crown form. To address the potential hazard of unpredictable limb breakage TG1 x5 Willow - Reduce crown height of all five trees by upto 40% to effectively pollard them at approximately 10m height. All pruning cuts to be made at branch junctions, to maintain and enable a good crown form as they re-grow. Limbs have recently broken out of a number of these trees and this work therefore will address the potential hazard of unpredictable limb breakage.

T1 - Copper Beech - Reduce branches by approximately 2 metres focusing mainly on lateral branches rather than the top. Lift canopy to provide statutory clearance over the road and clear from service cables. T2 - Tulip Tree - Reduce by approximately 3 metres to restore balance within the crown due to previous limb failure leaving the tree unbalanced. T3 - Horse Chestnut - Reduce by approximately 3 to 4 metres, leaving a natural flowing crown outline and remove major deadwood. T4 - To fell and remove 1 x Yew tree and install eco plugs to prevent re-growth.

T1 Copper Beech. Low canopy over road and footpath. To raise canopy to statutory clearances, (5.2m over road, 2.5m over footpath). To remove deadwood greater than 60mm over road and footpath, for safety purposes, minimising any chance for larger falling deadwood in windy conditions.

Ash (T2 of TPO 09/2019) - Reduce back crown over single storey block D4 by a maximum of 4m at its widest point (work mainly relates to over extended limbs over roof). Reduce back low branches over the roof to create 3m clearance. Cutback branches from front of the adjacent building (D6) to create 2-3m clearance. To help balance the crown, reduce remaining crown by approx. 2m. To avoid altering the balance of the tree as a whole, the crown of the tree should be reduced in proportion to its original shape. All pruning cuts must be made at branch junctions, leaving sufficient live growth to maintain or enhance crown form.
