Granted Richmond upon Thames PA25/3536 Works to Tree/s in Conservation Area

Works: Trees Small domestic

Read from the description, not a valuation. How we read the register

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

T1 Acacia: Fell Justification for Removal: The Acacia sp. is poorly positioned within close proximity to a boundary wall, where root expansion has begun to cause displacement and cracking to the adjacent masonry. Although the specimen is not yet mature, its species characteristics indicate a rapid growth rate and the potential for significant structural interference as it develops. The restricted space limits future root and canopy expansion, rendering long-term retention impracticable without further damage to the wall or adjacent surfaces. The tree’s canopy currently overshadows nearby planting, suppressing the growth of adjacent specimens and reducing overall diversity within the planting scheme. It also contributes to localised shading of the adjoining garden area. Due to its siting behind the boundary and lack of public visibility, it offers negligible public amenity value and makes no material contribution to the wider streetscape. Formative or remedial pruning would be technically difficult due to the tree’s growth habit and position against the wall, and would not resolve the underlying structural and spatial conflicts. On arboricultural grounds, removal and replacement with a more suitable species in an appropriate location is considered the most sustainable long-term solution.

Recommendations - Reduce all aspects of crown crown by approx. 3-3.5m, remove deadwood and hanging branches. Reduce lower lateral branch by approx. 3m and thin by 20% to reduce weight on branch tips and chance of failure. (Application made as a 5 day DDD due to the dangerous state of the tree).
