Awaiting decision Nottingham 22/00259/PWC Works to trees in Conservation Areas

Works: Trees

Still open. Anyone can comment while the consultation period runs, and comments go to the council rather than to us.

Proposal

We would like to remove 2x self seeded Sycamore trees on our boundary with Cyprus Road. These trees were pollarded some 25 years ago but have now grown huge and crowded out the adjacent White Beam and Copper Beech trees. The roots are now also affecting the retaining wall on Cyprus Road which is a huge concern and has become our main reason for asking for the removal of both trees. If these trees were removed the resulting light would encourage the White Beam and Copper Beech to grow in a much more natural way. They are currently very lanky as they struggle to reach light round the 2 Sycamores. The 2 Sycamores are also fouling our neighbour's telephone cable. The privet hedge adjacent to Cyprus Road is also dying through lack of light. The demise of this very established hedge will adversely affect the look and feel of that part of Cyprus Road. I attach a location plan and also a plan of the garden showing the trees concerned.

The tree concerned is a mature 50ft (approx) yellow conifer. I have enclosed a photograph to help identify it. We would like to have this tree felled to make way for a couple of much more suitable native deciduous trees of a smaller habit so that some sunshine reaches the house in the winter months.

The tree in question, which I understand to be a Tree of Heaven and is not subject to a TPO, is located next to the boundary wall between my property at 71 Cyprus Road and that of a neighbour?s at 57 Tavistock Drive. I have attached a sketch plan to this application. I am seeking permission to fell the tree if there is no other action which can be taken to avoid damage which is believed is being caused by the presence of tree roots.

Tree Code: Sgl/106736 Species: Beech (Fagus sylvatica) TPO: TPO269 (T10) Works Sectionally fell and remove the Beech tree to ground level. Remove all timber, branches and arising debris from site. Grind out or otherwise remove the stump where practicable, or leave at ground level as directed by the client. Reason for Works The tree is exhibiting significant structural defects and decay, including: Evidence of substantial basal decay associated with fungal activity (Pholiota spp.). Hollow sounding stem indicating internal decay. Two very large historic tear-out wounds, including one approximately 5 metres above ground level. Major limb loss and loss of large branches. Abnormal buttressing and trunk form. Stem decay below the crown break. These defects indicate a significant decline in structural integrity and an increased risk of partial or whole-tree failure. Summary 1 × Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Sectional dismantling and removal of the entire tree due to advanced structural defects and decay.
