Planning application
Middle Caves Farm East Road Melsonby Richmond North Yorkshire DL10 5NG
Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.
Proposal
Application to determination if prior approval is required for a balanced cut and fill earth moving operation to create an irrigation lagoon for storing winter water Why necessary for agriculture: The introduction of an irrigation lagoon at Middle Caves Farm will allow the applicants to secure a supply of water to apply to specialist crops on the adjoining land throughout the spring / summer months when rainfall is low. Currently irrigation is reliant on the water levels of the borehole at the time the crops need it. The creation of a water irrigation lagoon is that it can be filled in the winter months and stored for use. This will reduce risk to the farming business and not require extraction when water tables are very low Why designed for agriculture: Situated in the proposed irrigation area, close by the abstraction point and by electricity. Floating pumps will pressurise an underground distribution system.
