Works: Trees

Proposal
Tree species: Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) Proposed works: Full crown reduction by approximately 20?25% (2-2.5m height reduction and 1-1.5m lateral reduction), including reduction of the crown spread/height where appropriate, together with an approximately 15% internal crown thin. The proposed works will be carried out throughout the crown to achieve an even, balanced reduction while retaining the natural form and structural framework of the tree. Pruning will be undertaken in accordance with good arboricultural practice, with cuts kept to suitable growth points and no unnecessary removal of major limbs. Particular attention is required to the left-hand lateral crown, which is currently extending heavily over the neighbouring property?s land. This side of the crown will be proportionately reduced to bring the tree back into a more balanced and manageable form and to reduce the extent of overhang onto the neighbouring property. The 20-25% crown reduction is proposed to reduce the overall crown dimensions while retaining sufficient live growth and maintaining the tree's natural appearance. The 15% internal thin will selectively remove appropriate secondary and smaller branches from within the crown to improve light penetration and airflow and to reduce excessive internal congestion, without creating an overly sparse crown. All works will be carried out by a suitably qualified and experienced arborist, with consideration given to the tree's health, structural condition, surrounding property and neighbouring land. Reason for works: The principal reason for the proposed reduction is the excessive lateral extension of the crown over the neighbouring property. The works are intended to reduce the overhang, maintain appropriate clearance from the neighbouring property and restore a more balanced crown profile, while retaining the health, amenity value and natural character of the horse chestnut.
