The proposed work is to a single Magnolia tree marked M1 in the attached Plan PLAN 1. It abuts the NW corner of No. 9 McKay Road in the front garden and is right on the corner of the building. The foliage spreads across the front East bedroom of No. 9, the guttering, with the roof above, up to and beyond the apex of the roofline. To the East it also spreads across the return side paths to both No. 9 and No.11 and up and above the roof of No. 11. The foliage obscures daylight to the front bedroom at No. 9 and the side paths below No. 9 and No. 11 and runs closely around the gutters of both houses and the size now means there could be even soon be some roof damage . Crown reduction of 2 to 2.5 metres metres and thinning of some 25% to 30% was undertaken in August 2022 when the tree was significantly shorter and smaller than now. Hence it is proposed to reduce the height now by some 3 - 3.5 metres and conduct careful crown thinning of 25 to 35%. This is slightly more than in 2022 in order to get back to a more manageable size once again, but which should still allow the tree to continue to display its attractive spring foliage as before.
