The cavity extends to around halfway into the heartwood and has previously supported two large fruiting bodies of Dryads Saddle (Cerioporus squamosus). This species is a wood-decay fungus associated with white rot. While it is considered a secondary decay organism, once established it can significantly accelerate structural weakening of the host timber.
