Planning application

19 Charnley Drive Chapeltown Leeds LS7 4ST

Granted Leeds 24/06098/TR Tree Works

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

T1 Lawson Cypress - Remove. The tree has grown so much it is starting to block the pathway and makes it difficult to open the gate at the back of the garden. T2 Plum - Chop the branches off that overhang from 21 Charnley Drive. When the tree has fruit on it, the branches are weighted down which makes it difficult to get to the gate at the back of the garden. The longest branch I want to cut off is around 1.5m long. There are five other branches that I'd like to cut off, but they are shorter (about 1m long each) so in total around 6.5m though they are quite high up so this is very much a guess.

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

T20 Sycamore - Fell, tree has a basal wound 0.5 - 1m (decay has increased since last annual tree report). Replant a Liquidambar styraciflua in its place, due to timescale and seasonality - we would anticipate planting the Liquidamber in winter 2023. T24 Mature Oak - To prune back branches from flats - currently encroaching roof and gutters. To prune back from building to give 2m clearance.
