T3; Ash - Pollard to a height of 20' - 25' at the highest point. A reduction of approximately 60-70% (see attached marked photo); The part rotten branch to the right hand side of the tree will be removed completely to re-balance the tree (see attached photo); The rest of the tree branches will be cut back into an asymmetrical shape like an umbrella, complementing the pollarded height of the main trunk. What happens while it is decided

The process from here

This application is with Isle of Wight for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.

The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Amendment to proposed works (received 07.07.2026): T1; Oak (Quercus robur) (located on driveway) - Crown clean by removing all deadwood, epicormic growth and crossing branches, promoting a healthy canopy. The remaining tree is to be pruned away from all overhead BT lines that are running through the canopy by a 10% canopy thin. Reason: Promote healthy canopy and clear BT lines. T2; Oak (Quercus robur) - Remove to ground level due. Reason: Poor growth structure. Removing this will promote growth in surrounding, more established oaks by giving them more space and access to light. T3; Multi stem Silver Birch (Betula pendula) - Dismantle to ground level. Reason: Growing into nearby oaks causing them to compete for light and space, preventing them from maturing. T4; Large Oak (Quercus robur) - Crown raised by 2 metres to create a canopy and trunk. The remaining canopy reduced by 20% from branch tips to create a balanced tree shape and remove the movement in the wind. A further 10% reduced by thinning of dead wood, epicormic growth, and crossing branches. Reason: To allow light & wind to pass through the canopy and improving tree health.
