Planning application

18, North Grove, London, N6 4SL

Granted Haringey CON/2021/0345 Works to trees in Conservation Area

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

2 Lime Trees - removal of small branches at the base of the trees, as the mass is too dense. They prevent growth of the decorative shrubs and protrude onto the road, making it difficult to use the parking bay. We would like to remove small branches below wall level. We would be grateful if this application could be expedited due to people having difficulties in parking.

As you can see from the current site plan, our client is having a hard time getting two cars into the driveway due to the location of the existing tree (T1) and overgrown ornamental shrubs. They also want to have a sliding door for security and privacy purposes. Therefore they would like to remove T1 and plant a native hedgerow (Fagus sylvatica) instead.

T1 Horse Chestnut. A tree with serious health issues: Huge lesions and exposed inner wood, on the trunk at ground level to 2m in height, plus similar problems in the middle and upper crown. A significant gap in the canopy is apparent - where a large limb broke off several years ago. The tree overhangs several gardens, where the residents have expressed concerns about the tree's safety. A cursory inspection of the lower trunk revealed decay of the exposed timber. Proposed works: Reduce height by 2m. Reduce right side (when viewed from the garden of no 22) by 3m. Crown thin by 25% The object being - to reduce weight and wind resistance and extend the life of the tree, reducing the risk of a serious breakage. T2. Holly. The tree has been ailing since the neighbours created a driveway several years ago, lowering the ground level and causing significant root damage. Consequently, the tree is as good as dead - just a handful of leaves remain. Proposed works: Fell

Dawn Redwood. Tree T1 on Sketch Plan. Arboriculturist Conclusion "Given the presence of cracks in the wall of adjacent buildings, and the close proximity of the tree to the buildings, it is recommended that T1 is removed to ground level." Engineer's Conclusion "the best course of action to avoid any further movement on the existing building would be to remove the existing tree and underpin the existing foundation"

Pembury House Nursery, Lansdowne Road, Tottenham, London, N17 9XE

Ginkgo (T1) - fell. Reason: this is a female tree, that drops fruit all over the nursery playground. The children try to eat them, it gets into their clothes, shoes, hands, and all over the class room, creating an extremely unpleasant environment for the children and staff. Replant with another deciduous tree with similar potential size canopy (eg. Norway maple) Sycamore (T2) - Reduce the height of the tree by 4m. Reduce lateral branches in line with this (up to 2.5m). Reason: There is some decay at the base of the tree on the east side, spanning 40% of the circumference of the tree. The bark is flaking from ground level up to 1.5m, and use of the sounding mallet indicates the dysfunctional wood extends at least to the same height. The tree has a full crown, but has had selective branch length reductions in the past. The crown overhangs the nursery playground and neighbouring parking area. Lime x2 (T10 & T11) - Crown raise to 4m, removing epicormic growth. Reason: to remove the branches that touch the shelter to prevent damage.
