Poplar NT3 This is a tree growing on adjacent land thought to belong to Exeter City Council, the tree overhangs 28 Curie Mews. Specification - Reduce the lowest branch over the north eastern aspect by 3.5m with a 100mm maximum cut diameter, not cutting beyond the boundary Reason for works - This branch has a potential point of decay 1m distal to its junction which may indicate some weakness. The aforementioned branch is also heavily weighted towards the end and it is hyperextended, it looks to have sagged under the load, separating from the general crown profile. T189 - Monterey Pine. Remove broken branch, cut back long low westerly limb by approximately 3-4m to upright growth point, diameter of cut approximately 100mm T233-T237 - Lime. Crown lift to give 3m clearance over car parking, maximum diameter of cut 25mm T264 - Lime. Cut back to give 2m clearance off building. Justification: T189 has a broken branch in crown which needs removing on safety grounds and there's a long, etiolated limb overhanging highway, this needs shortening to reduce risk of this limb failing onto the highway. Trees 233-237 have low branches overhanging car parking that need removing to facilitate car parking T264 has branches resting on building and they need pruning back to give sufficient clearance

1 Culverland Close Exeter EX4 6HR
T1 - Holm Oak tree: Prune back the lateral growth only that overhangs the rear garden of No 2 Culverland close. This will be between 0.75-1 metre in length, and will consist of re-growth only (from the pruning cuts made the last time the tree was pruned) .Diameter cuts no greater than 3 cm. - The lowest branch arising from the main stem at approx. 5 metres above ground level, (and is closest to the top of the bowling club roof), will be pruned back to the previous growth points. this will remove again 0.75-1metre of regrowth, with 3 cm diameter cuts. Reasons: The Neighbours at No. 2 would like to maximise the light entering their back garden. Removing any more than the re-growth will severely affect the form, health and vigour of the tree. So I have recommended here to prune back to the growth points, minimising the cut size, and so decreasing the risk of infection.

Tree species: Holm oak - T3 in preservation order (TPO 439) (Doc 2) and T3 on the sketch plan (Doc 3). Proposed works The tree has grown significantly and now exceeds the safe limit for its location. The arborist has identified a significant structural defect caused by Ganoderma decay fungus emerging from the main load-bearing component. The tree also has a long-standing weakened bifurcation and stands in close proximity to residential property. On this basis, our arborist has recommended pollarding to reduce the risk of structural failure and to manage the long-term health and safety of the tree. (For a detailed assessment and supporting photos, please see Doc 1 - Doug Pratt arborist assessment). Arborist recommends the holm oak is reduced to circa 7/8 metres and crown lifted to 3.5 metres above ground level, as applied previously. (fyi: The same work was approved and undertaken approx 10 years ago.)
