  • NC/25/100481 Granted

WOODLANDS, HIGH STREET, BURSLEDON, SOUTHAMPTON, SO31 8DL

1no. Cypress (T1) - Remove leaning tree down to a stump. Does not seem to be vascularly linked cohabitant tree. On the tension side of lean there is a lack of buttress support due to dominant tree’s stem, the buttress on the other side showing decay, providing very little support against lean. Lower stem has historic wounds on tension, compression side and sounding hollow with dysfunctional timber up to 3m..

1no. Weeping Willow - Remove the crown entirely (see picture 4) and cut back the lower branches to a max length of approx 3m, similar to picture 5. Tree has already lost two large branches (see photos 1 & 2) and is showing further signs of weakness. Tree was subject of a previous application NC/23/94510; outcome was “Raise No Objection.” One of the two trees in that application suffered a major loss of a limb last summer leading to emergency pollarding. (See picture 5). With the other tree having similar characteristics, including a very large branch reaching over the drive (see picture 3), we believe it would be appropriate to reduce the second tree in a similar way to the first one.

1no. Silver Birch (T1) - Fell to ground level due to poor physiological state of the tree which has been occurring over the last four years. There is no reasonable reduction of the crown possible that would prolong the life of the tree as tree is unlikely to respond well to pruning. Replant with another Birch.

Oak (T1, originating from no. 24 Thornbury Wood, SO53 5DQ) - Reduce lateral limbs extending over garden and towards property by approx. 2.5m to even up the tree and provide a natural and balanced shape. Majority of branches are to the Southeast side of tree. Pruning will be carried out back to natural growth points to improve light levels within garden and minimise overhang towards house, while preserving the tree's overall form and health.
